The first year I lived here we had a super hard rain storm and my basement flooded. What a mess. I observed the water wasn't moving away from the house, some landscaping had built an area that filled up like a bathtub and would overflow the basement window wells, fill those up and of course water was spraying out around the edges of the boarded up windows smh, it was a complete and total disaster. Looked like a submarine getting depth charged in the movies, even had water pouring out of a 10 inch intake line :(

The solution was simple, just dig a little ditch through the berm that was blocking the water from moving away from the house and the problem was solved.

I actually use cardboard cut into 3-4' circles. Cut a straight line to the center and then make a 4" circular hole in the center. I then spray it with cheap dollar store clearcoat. I then secure $0.69 China space blanket to it with packing tape. This is then placed under my plant for under lighting when we have cloudy days for an extended period. Fattens my bottoms up pretty good compared to not doing it. Didn't need this year. CRAZY amount of sun.

Similar issues here. Bought a 4" drain assembly, 90 degree elbow, 4' of PVC pipe, about $30 of pea gravel and landscape fabric. Dug a trench to just below the drain height. Then extended this to 8' in length and about 16" depth at the lowest end, away from the house. Lay the fabric, doubled and place drain and pipe in trench. Backfill with pea gravel to 4-6". Then wrap fabric over it. Replace dirt and sod from excavation. Water well for a few days. No scars in the yard and draining perfectly for 7 years now. Just remember shit flows downhill. Maintain a grade. Higher at the house. Lower at the end.

That's shorts and ice cream on the porch. And it only gets to minus 10 max here. That's borderline cold. When he hits mid 40's then it's cold for the girls.

When I moved to California it was December. I was wearing shorts and a tank top and people thought I was crazy.

Meanwhile I had just left NY where it was snowing and 15 degrees outside.

Shorts on the porch is right. Lol

My first day back in the lower part of the state from the UP was 34 after leaving 12F. Sat on my porch in shorts eating Ice cream after unloading. Neighbors thought I was a freak. Conditioning and exposure. We adapt. Like our girls.

I smell cali today. Had to wash the ash and dew slime off my car this morning. Man I am starting to really feel he people in this mess. I hope all make it with only some stress.
