Heat Mat Temperature to Germinate?

Starting my 2nd grow and I want to get much closer to optimum conditions for the plants, starting from seed. I will germinate in wet paper towel till they just sprout then I'll be putting in rapid rooters.

I have a humidity dome and heating mat and was wondering when I should start using the mat and at what temperature? Room temps range from about 50-60 Farenheit. Should I start using the mat when I put them in the rapid rooters?

Thank you

Your room temp is low, so yeah I would. But becareful sometimes the heat mats get to warm. Sometimes I put them on timers so they don't over heat.

NOO ROOM TEMPERATURE IS BETTER..HEAT MATS ARE CHEAP BUT I LIKE THE HOUSE WARM SO MY HOUSE IS ALWAYS 70-80.. SO ID SAY 75 IS GOOD..BUT IF THEY ARE CONVENIENT THEN USE THE MATS I AGREE WITH SEBASTOPOLIAN..uSE TIMERS

Yeah our temps are way to low to germinate I usually put them on top of my cable box it keeps them temps around 80 which is good for germination.

The top of my electric water heater has proven to be a reliably cozy place to put a small tray of seedlings. Soil temp stays dialed in at 78 deg,F when thermostat for the water is set at 125 F.

I have a temp control to for the heat mat, so setting it to 78 is ok? Its winter here and the house heat is all electric, it gets expensive. So nothing I can do anything about room temps. But I will keep the room temp high just while they're in the paper towel, would be afraid of baking it under the heating mat.

Thanks alot for all the quick responces. Rep for all

You should be fine as long as the paper towel stays moist. And thanks for the rep brotha.

Yeah that should be fine you just want to make sure that they are warm it will increase your germination success, I have heard of strains that need up to 85+ Fahrenheit to germ.
And thank you both for the rep much appreciated

.

Banks I'd move the temperature probe into the covered seed germenator. The temperature will probably be a bit warmer in there than the floor of your tent.

Until I got my heating pad I germinated seeds in my flowering tent where the temp was about 85 F like yours, always had good germination.

Roughly how long did it take? It’s been 2 days for me and nada..... Also... should I cover the top of the dome or no? Do I vent the dome cover or no?

.

It took me 2 days for the seeds to crack, then once planted 2 days for the sprouts to pop the soil,

I germinate in a folded paper towel in a zip lock bag, no moisture escapes. Leave your dome on.

I put the probe inside my dome it reads 86.2f 63%rh with the setting on IN on the gauge
