They are really tasty though, hopefully the slot limit is enabling enough of them to reproduce. I think I hooked one once, my hook was not up to the task...lol.

Hooked into a good 30+ pound salmon on the feather a few days ago. Bent hook right up at the bank. Size 1 Gamakatsu. Usually they hold up, but not this time :-(
The feather is kinda hard to land them to begin with though. Pretty narrow river especially with the low flows this year.

Gotta bleed em.

sturgeon meat can get fucked up if you cut through the cord. Def gotta bleed em though. Only fish i dont usually bleed are trout and Kokanee. prob wouldn’t hurt to rip their gills first but usually we just put them right on ice in a fish kill bag as soon as they’re caught.

Pulled in a 96 inch sturgeon last summer. Over here keeper is 40-60 inch. Anything under has to be thrown back anything over has to not even come out of the water. I hopped into the damn delta (knee deep at the bank) to get the hook out of its mouth. Thank God we use non barbed hooks here or that would have been a hook left in its mouth.

Yup, that 40-60 is to the fork now. It was 46-66 before that but tip of tail. Pretty much ends up being the same. I’m in the same general area as you :-)

Oh, and awesome hooking up with that 96”er.
The last long one I got that big was banking it below Clarksburg. Sometimes I would just rather leave the boat at home or in the slip and bank it. That day was bad ass. Fucked my back up though. Lol.

I live 5 minutes from great bank sturgeon and striper fishing. I just dont like targeting sturgeon because I like catching more than 1 fish every 3 weeks. Lol
