Hey bully I am setting up a new room and it's limited for verticle space (1.8-2m) and I'm trying to decide whether to go high end led or MH/HPS....
With cool tubes or a ducted hood how close to the canopy can you keep your 600w HPS?
I can keep em close enough to get light bleach ~ 25-35cm. Is that 1.8-2m total height ,meaning that including pot height and light or is it that you could have a 1.8-2m plant?

Yeah its such a subjective thing anyway i can hit 1.5gpw but i grow sativa doms that a very good yielders, theres no way to compare ourselves to each other
And its missing the important factor of time. Plus most dont actually add all the grow room Watts up and just factor in lights.

I get why commercial growers worry about it but for the home grower its very meaningless. Quality is generally smaller yielding strains or longer flowering ones and both those ruins a Gram per watt X time. Plus its more about variety and not growing the same cut for 5 years..

Exactly. Its a pissing contest.

Just thought of a cool idea a tv show where they give growers a budget and access to a big stock of genetics and see who can make the best grow.

1.8-2m total height to ceiling (rooms on a slope) about to purchase some lights so tossing up whether go led or HP's in the past I've used HP's/MH but that was years ago and leds are undoubtedly getting alot better so it makes the decision alot harder

Is this loss due to the refraction caused by the curvature in the glass of the cool tube or simple because the lights passing through glass?

Any opinions on cool tube vs ducted hood with flat glass surface?
I cant answer that.

I believe that duxted hoods are better than cool tubes, this could be because with a cool tube the globe is surrounded 360 degrees by glass so all the light that is emitted directly upwards into the light hood then gets reflected back through the cool tube again obviously incresing the amount of times the light passes through the glass and increasing amount of light degradation - these are just my thoughts not facts tho

end of the day time is the more important factor. The difference between a 8 week strain and a 9 week strain is an extra cycle a year.
Yep which is why i shit myself when i realised my amnesia haze #2 is done in less than 8 its my fav smoke but it yielded only 1.75lbs but if it will yield me that in less than 8 weeks its a completely diff ball game

I know my mates struggle with that head height with hps but that is growing the tall strains i grow

Makes sense you would get more light to the canopy using a ducted a hood from the reflection of the hood
