If you were teaching a new grower...

For the bare minimum you only need a wall timer and one small oscillating fan. Stick it in a cuboard 12/12 just water and maybe give some scrap food for nutrients like egg shells.

That isn't a bad plan if you can get the boards at a reasonable price in europe. You will need air flow and you will probably want a carbon scrubber for the smell.

Trying to keep it simple.
I'm going with 4x kingbrite qb132.
I will source 185 driver locally.
Also will make the frame myself.

What spectrum should I go for?
With epistar red, or add in later as supplement?
Lm301b or *h?

Anyone against this light?

KISS KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. not ment to cause offence, its just asaying.
Srtart with a single feminized or auto and see how the plant grows, dont try anything fancy for starters, it just complicates matters.
one lady and all of your attention will be fine.
use soil for starters, hydro can cause all kinds of problems
use a feminized seed, you want a result at the end and nothing is worse then a whole lot of effort and ending up with a male.
you dont need air flow, ive grown an auto northan lights in a 3 x 3 wih 400w of metal halide/ sodium and the plant was massive
just learn to walk b4 you run good luck n keep it simple, less to go wrong

If you have no airflow and a semi weak strain the stems will grow thin and wont be able to support much bud. You would also be having to tie and stake up all the ones that flop over. Keep it extra simple. Use a fan.

SH1T thanx for that, i was forgeting the NL's thick branch structure. for some reason i was only thinking in terms of heat from the lighting. thanx again go go

Like has been stated before use soil for your first few grows at least. Hydro, in all of its forms seems cool when you look at it. But too often new growers try to dive right into hydro and drown in the issues that come along with it. I started with soil 27 years ago, moved into hydro for a while and then went back to soil. And even though I talk about doing a hydro grow again sometimes I probably never will. Soil is easier and requires a little less attention. And in my opinion gives better results. -not ment to offend the hydro guys and gals.
Just read and retain as much knowledge as you possibly can, pay attention to what is going on with your plants and don't try feeding them a lot of bottles of Brawndo. And I know, I know, some of you are saying, "but it's got what plants crave? ". But, you're plants will do better with a minimalist approach until you know how to read them better. Good luck friend. I hope you find all of the joy the rest of us do in these wonderful plants.

OP if you are decided on using leds then i think the most important thing for you to learn is how to get your plant to transpire properly and how environment and spectrum affects transpiration and opening and closing of the stomata. Read up on vapour pressure deficit, VPD.

LEDs and hydro may seem cool but they are more demanding and increase a new growers chance of failure CMH or a MH/HPS grow light don't need extra nutrients or a lot of extra work. a new grower has a high risk of failure.no reason to increase that risk.

I guess LEDs are out of question. I thought it was going to make my life easier, but thanks to @Rocket Soul and his infrared thermometer + VPD, I will leave it to Beaver.

"The transpiration rate of the plant is driven by changes in vapor pressure deficit (VPD), which is a combined function of air temperature and relative humidity (Kholová et al., 2012; Belko et al., 2013) and is calculated as the saturated vapor pressure minus the actual vapor pressure."

General consensus of setting up a baseline with HIDs favorable environment, taking measurements of humidity and leaf temperature; yield and quality, before jumping into LEDs, sounds like an informed decision and most likely happier first few grows.

I completely disagree that soil is easier than hydro. What could be easier than "10ml per litre"?

As long as you follow the directions, a simple recirculating or bubbling hydroponic kit will:

* Grow faster and better
* Eliminate overwatering or underwatering
* Reduce or eliminate problems with soil-borne pests
* Provide the correct nutrient ratios ALL THE TIME without having to second-guess what's in the soil
* Reduce waste

The two biggest problems I see with noobs in soil are: overwatering, overdosing nutrient

They simply can't help themselves. The number of plants I've seen killed due to damp-off, overwatering or excessive nutrient is mind-boggling.

Hydro is easy as piss. You simply add the nutrient, adjust your pH, and ensure you change your nutrient solution regularly. Make sure you get a quality single part or two-part nutrient and that's really all you need to grow.

Feel free to disagree, but after 35 years of growing, I never use soil. Not even for outdoor grows. I just pot up some coco and water it regularly. The first time I switched from soil to hydro, it was truly a revelation! I will never go back.
