Have you used defoliation to control stretch?

So all this time we're waiting for leaves to grow back you could have just flipped earlier and not run out of room and done more grows in the same time you take to do one.

Plus one for defoliating.

I think he said they were vegged so long due to a flowering plant taking longer than expected.

Surely they don't grow back at all, you strip the big leafs and the little ones grow bigger to make up for it and when you strip at day 21 the sugar leaf then grows bigger than it would of to make up for it again leaving a much more leafy end product than would of been originally?

Ive only done it a few times and its not my method of growing, but I have seen lots of people do it with success , but does always seem a more leafy product in the end.

Anyway to your original question , I can see some merit in the idea , stretch happens mostly in dark period and uses stored energy from the light period so if you strip hard you reduce your plants ability to store as much energy , different tactic but same theory as a long dark period pre 12/12.

Keep us posted on how it works out, maybe treat one plant differently to see if you can show the difference .
true, fanleaves will never grow back. so instead, the plant is going to promote new shoots. which, ultimately leads to more budsites. which is the reason why schwazzing is actually done.

.

I couldn't flip to flower because my 4x4 flower tent was taken up with plants from my previous grow. These plants were in a 3x3 tent under a 200 watt LED until last Thursday.

In hindsight I should have flipped to flower earlier like you suggest, in the 3x3 veg tent 2 or 3 weeks ago.

I'm never worried about the first defoliation but after the second some strains, like Lemon Haze, don't grow back as many leaves as I'd like.

I'm going to defoliate a second time around 7 to 10 days, I'll probably put the trellis up then.

Keep up the good work bro, I am also surprised how much you defoliated I hope that works out for you

I found your old e-book if you lost it, I love all the work you did putting it together-- there is so much good info on there!

Thanks Nizza, that book was loads of fun to put together, I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

I've got it stored on an old laptop and I've been thinking about adding my new growing style to the book and reposting it in the newbie section.

Looking back at a video I made of the old method, COB, produced bigger buds than trellising. I don't know yet which will produce the most when I've got my garden dialled in.

Not published, just an amateur endeavour.

I had a pretty good index that was linked to the page you want to read, so you could click to different subjects you were interested in.

.wow very impressive, that shows a man who has true belief in what he’s doing and laying it all out on paper for anyone’s readings, I won’t give any side notes cause this is way above my level, but I’m gonna follow cause you guys have great learning tips for a new guy

Could have topped them or trained, possible option if it happens again.

So many options prior to flip, and during flower to control the "stretch", but he wants to defoliate during flower to control stretch, not the other known techniques.

Super crop them that's what I do I'm in the same situation. Vegged to long due to longer flower time needed, it sucks but I make due
