Who runs Bloom temps over 79F regularly?

Bugbee (Utah State U crop biologist) says ideal temp range for cannabis is 77-86F (co2 enriched) to maximize yield. (I believe) most growers would say “keep it < 80F (even with co2).

How many of you grow (flower, in particular) over 80f, how high DO you go, & what do you see as a result?

Thanks for the fast replies. It begins to look to me as though I’m missing out on “supercharged” growth rate / transpiration rate by running mid 70’s. I’ve thought for a long time that my plants never drank as often as some other growers, thus consuming fewer nutes also. I see the difference in the plants, with “sharp” defined edges & veins + praying when temps are near or just over 80, & co2 around 1200ppm.

Ive been running just a tad over 80F even with my DE fixtures for the past few runs since I came across that same video. co2 supplemented. I like this range.

My buddies would say thats way too high with DE. They keep it 70-75 and 80 to them is getting close to the danger zone.

Ive even ran around ~90F temps with co2 on purpose because I read an old thread on here that supposedly the perfect temp while running co2 is ~88F. I do remember swapping my 20lb tanks way more than usual that run. Yield was pretty good but the product was too hairy... it clearly looked like itd been through some stress. So I decided not to do that again lol.

I run 79-80 everyday I’m flower. Never had an issue. Once I go above 82 tho things get bad. Only difference I noticed when I flower in the 75 to 76 range is the colors. Plant express is much more colors and fades beautifully

I'd suggest getting an IR thermometer. Most people are talking about air temp... Did Bruce specify?

Yup, my IR thermometer is great for checking surface temps. In this case he was talking ambient air temp. The video is Maximizing Cannabis Yields w/ Dr Bruce Bugbee, posted by Apogee, 47.09 minutes. He does speak briefly on root zone temp also.

When using LED(s) I flower in the low 80(s), 82 - 85, photosynthesis will always generate more oxygen and glucose than what the cellular respiration process could ever consume, but that process can get slowed down even more when one uses LED(s) and doesn't raise their environments temperature, because LED(s), unlike other radiating lighting sources, don't generate enough heat at the cellular level to optimize the cellular respiration process on their own!

I kinda knew that he was only talking about air temp.
What I was getting at is that asking what temp people run their room at, or who runs theirs at above a certain temp, doesn't seem to be enough info anymore (in my opinion). The only reason we even bring up temp (air temp) is because it related to the actual plants temp.

And you can't really accurately calculate VPD without the plant's/leaf surface temp.
If people respond with "I run my room at 'x' temp", or "above 'x' temp", and don't also say what the leaf/plant temp is...it can be (unintentionally) misleading. Even if they say what type of light they're using, though that's definitely useful.

I think we should be asking what temp do you run your... plants at, haha, if that makes sense. The follow up would be "how do you run your room in order to achieve that plant temp?" or something.

I guess I'm just ranting now..
To answer your question though, yes, I do. If I'm running led, I'm always trying to be 80 minimum - preferably 82-88. But depending on the rest of the environment, and it's really based on what's required to get the actual plant; the leaf surface temp is say...80*F.
Usually, the leaf temps are 4-5* lower than the ambient air. So 80* air temp just doesn't cut it. But that's for my current/previous environment. Nearing the end though, I'd want the plant (and air) to be cooler, for reasons mentioned; terps, etc.

Hope some of that is remotely useful, hah.

Edit: Oh, as a result (of warmer/sufficient plant temps) I see more growth - rate and mass, for sure. Higher metabolism, etc.

i try to keep it under 85 keeping it under 80 would require running AC. results are in pictures in my sig. If keeping it 5 degrees cooler could produce more terps it wouldnt be worth the cost of running my AC all summer. to me at least.

I hear ya. Not all summer though, "last few weeks" many people drop temp, as I'm sure you know of.
Better 'quality' for some additional cost, sounds like a reasonable trade, but without any actual numbers or quantifying it's vague.

Your nug looks delicious.

Even without C02 I run up to about 82-83 degrees the first few weeks of flower. I'm under double ended hps. It's more beneficial I'm sure with the c02, I'm about to install it and see. But even without it the first few weeks of flower I feel benefit from higher temps. I like to drop back down to 79 after flowers have set, and even a little lower towards the end.

The higher temps seem to get the plants drinking and filling in the space better.

Ambient temperature by itself does not say everything.
You have to look also at leaf temperature and at RV.
This will give you your VPD, and if this is in order there is a really wide range with 'optimal' temperatures.

How many of you grow (flower, in particular) over 80f, how high DO you go, & what do you see as a result?
What do you mean with DO here?
