I suppose it would have to go by what one considers the word fair to mean. Some people will spend a fortune on things to grow with such as lights and nutes but grow some bag seed because they don't feel seeds should cost much. To that point seeds are easy to create. Now on the other hand the seed is the building block and the actual plant itself so one could argue that is worth a decent amount. There is a ton to be said about a quality genetic line. A well maintained genetic line has a ton of value, just not sure how much monetary value as a seed without provenance for the buyer. I can't really answer what a fair value would be but it is interesting to debate about in my head after just smoking one.

Basically they’re going to a starting legal grow operation in Michigan. I’ve got nothing to do with it. However trying to help a third party resolve a debt you might say. We’re talking 500 seeds. These people can verify the source of the seed. Of the genetics. In fact one was here in Alaska and knows what goes on.I suppose it would have to go by what one considers the word fair to mean. Thanks. I notice they’re sold out of the straight. A lot of seedbanks are out of a lot of strains it seems. Maybe there’s a huge interest in growing.

Seeds and strains have never been much interest to me as I'm happy with my dank bag seed clones and am usually happy with the seeds I purchase from Nirvana that average $10 each but I'll give 2 cents.
1st I would ask this question in the seed and strain section. Some of the experienced seed guys never stray from that section to the general section so you are missing out on some good advice.
Sounds like your selling old seeds right, not creating new seeds to sell.
Either way I would think the best way to get an idea of value would be to have some test runs by other growers. If they were newly created seeds that would be the way to go.
You can always put them on strainly for what you feel would be an acceptable price on the high end and see if any fish bite and if they don't sell no harm no foul.

The entire idea is to maintain this pure line. Not create a new strain eh? That’s how we’ve lost virtually every landrace strain except for a few reserve pockets of people maintaining them. That is the entire thing regarding these fresh seeds I just harvested.

Interesting situation So basically you are trying to put a value on 500 seeds. If there is documented stability in the line, and its never been crossed with anything else, I personally would value that super high. A strain that has been bred like that over generations (F50 lol?) and climatized to your region already would seem to be a very easy win for someone for either outdoor crops or starting a breeding program.
The only issue I'm having is the lack of exclusivity. Since someone else is getting the genetics as well, you can't put as large a price on it.
Best similar breeder/seed pricing I can come up with is BOG. His line isn't quite as old and started as seeds from Amsterdam not landrace genetics. But he worked the same genetics into a stable line over a long time. 100 pack from him is $300. So I would say $1000-1500 for 500 seeds is fair. On one hand your stuff is closer to landrace. On the other it doesn't have the benefit of ppl all over the world growing it and giving it hype. If you can provide photo evidence of grows and guarantee the seed stock for one cycle I would pay $1k for them.

Some are interested in the latest Cookies Sundae Cake Candy Banana Pie but some of us are more interested in keeping the landraces and IBL's all these new strains came from. You can recreate a hybrid and many do as is evidenced by the same named strains being bred by dozens of different breeders. But pulling the Durban or Thai out of a hybrid is impossible.
Consider me one of those people in a pocket. I have a large collection of regular landrace and IBL seeds that I am working my way through and making more seeds every grow. I currently have some Ethiopian growing and I pollinated an entire plant that is now loaded with seeds. Before that it was a landrace Mazar I Sharif. Before that it was Panama, Durban, PCK, Ciskei, Thai, and more. I've also made different crosses between all of them along the way and some are just pure fire. You will find some fire with F1 crosses between a landrace indica and landrace sativa. I have an Afghani I pollinated with the Ethiopian and I'm definitely going to be popping some of those seeds as soon as they are done.
If that history of that Durban is true then that's a real gem you have. I got my Durban from Sensi. I don't think putting a monetary value on them is really appropriate. I think you should focus on who you can share them with that will make sure they live on in pure form

Those seeds were also very closely kept and only went to growers like you. His son is going to step in and take over at this point. Lol everyone buys from seedbanks. Even breeders. Or they buy clones to breed that came from seedbank seeds. Or they chuck their own from seedbank seed plants. People are leveraging other people’s work. I don’t see many people going out in the bush hunting land races. The value of seeds now is really the work that goes into it. Are you just smashing to plants together or are you doing massive pheno hunts, testing and trying to develop a line through a couple generations.
That being said if you have a nice unadulterated old line that is certainly valuable to the right person. But the type of person will want a real strong providence. They aren’t going to accept on a random persons word something is what it is.
FYI I have a bag of old roadkill skunk seeds I inherited from my grandfather who grew in the hills. 100$ a bean. (Honestly if I really had that and I could prove it through real relations people probably would offer a ton more.)

This topic SC shit the bed pretty quick, huh? My opinion is it depends on a few factors. How rare they are, and how much in demand they are. There are seed collectors out there who pay 1000s for a few seeds that are rare. Research cannabis seed auction sites and you'll be able to get more information. One big thing, you must be able to prove the lineage all the back to 1970s.
