Digital Greenhouse Ballast

If you have a Digital Greenhouse Ballast I have a question for you. Having never heard a digital ballast before I was surprised with the buzzing noise it made. I know traditional ballasts can be noisy as all, but I really expected this to be almost whisper quiet. I can hear the cooling fan, but there is also a very strong buzzing noise. Is this normal? Or did I get a bum ballast? It is loud enough to be heard from the next room over as a background hum/buzz. Thanks! :hump: I know I have seen ballast questions posted before, but perhaps it is just me, but the Search function isn't working right now. Any input would be great, Digital Greenhouse, or just digital ballast. Do they really make this much of a buzzing noise?

That is what I was thinking... Never heard one before, but it was noisy.. Thanks for the reply, I contacted the folks at HTG, and they are making it right.. I do have to say those guys have some damn good customer service.. Thanks All for the replies.

Naw they are sending a new one, with a return airbill for the old. Part for Part. They are going to take care of the RMA to the vendor.

It worked out well for me...

HTG screwed up my order, then the postal orifice took forever to deliver a box with mildly damaged goods , mostly cosmetic...

HTG shipped a whole new order, with the correct items, and told me to keep what I got in the forst place...

That means that I got a complete extra 600 watt HPS digital ballast (which is silent by the way), with a easy 8 aircooled hood plus an extra bulb for my troubles...

I was very happy to have been taken care like that, even of I had to go through the hassle and wait...\

It could have been much worse...

HTG ROCKS and will have my business anytime I need something, even if they are a little more on some items, sometimes... but not often...

this happens with them constantly. their products are so cheap that they can afford to sent doubles out for free regularly...hmmmmm. why notjustdeal in good products... i do say i am using 1 of their mag ballast and euro hood..

I have been happy with their stuff... never regarded any of their products as inferior...

What company or brand would you recommend...?

i am trying out lumatek for my ballast. hortilux for my bulbs,have a sylvania greenhouse bulb now. i do love the euro hood from htg..i mean you get what you pay for. i am not trying to diss htg as much as i am saying do some research and get top notch equipment if you want to produce top notch bud consistantly and constantly.
now if thestuff at htg is top notch then great what a deal..but if that ballast goes down and it takes three/four days to get a new one, how much stress does that put on your crop? could affect the yeilds by as much as 30% probably closer to half that..i will try to find the articles on light cycle interuption..
i just think that better and alot of times more expensive products are more reliable..not to say just cause it costmore its better, not at all... just to say cheaply made inferior product are cheaper and more inferior because the materials used in their manufacturing are cheap...now at least htg stands behind their cheap crap, and sells it at a good price.. alot of places put you on your own and charge just under top dollar for low budget junk..
so in a way htg is awesome, but i wish they wouldnt perpetuate the sale of cheaply made goods, because this allows those companies to continue prey on individuals with small budgets and large dreams...instead of investing time and money into a project that could yeild a lifetime of medicine and profit if thats your thing..

You know.. Maybe I am expecting too much.. The replacement ballast came today, and it has the SAME freaking buzz.. Am I wrong to think I should only be hearing the cooling fan? As soon as it has the lamp plugged in, it starts to buzz.. WTF..

should make no noise..
try to get one with no fan next

right wich means you will have to replace it.. and when you do get one without a fan thats just another little cheap part that fails on ballast
