Creating a set up for 2-4oz each from 2 plants each grow

I would recommend at least 2x2 space for one plant. 6 feet height should be enough. Don't be cheap on the lights: buy quantum boards (i.e. for one plant https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/lamps/products/hlg-100 jr similar with 100 to 120 Watt output). Don't buy bluerple they are less effective and most are outdated.
Thanks for the advice. Seems like the cheaper $100 or less grow tents are 5 feet tall for a 2x4. It's about another $100 for that extra foot. Is it really worth it? Can't I just LST the plant to keep it shorter?

Yes you can but few things to keep in mind that won't make it simple. Your grow medium will take away height up to 1ft+ before you even get to the base of your plant. Anything at the top of your tent will also take away height (lights, fan, filter etc). Potentially up to 1+ft. 5ft can easily turn into 3ft of grow height. Which again, yes you can work with that using LST and SCROG techniques. I have 3 ft of grow space with 2 plants in waterfarms. It's a challenge but i do very well with mine. If you're in a position where you won't be able to give it as much time or if you're lazy (no disrespect), then invest in the extra height.

I am trying to figure out a good set up that could yield me 2oz-4oz per each plant of 2 different strains every time I do a grow.

I've been researching for almost a month, and it seems like people suggest a 2x4 grow tent, and a mars hydro led light or spider light that costs around $270-$300.

The total set up cost is looking like it will be $600 or more. I was hoping not to spend more than $300-$400 max, and was wondering since I'm only growing for myself, is there a less expensive set up that would work for the amount of oz's I am hoping to grow each time?

I would just try growing in my back yard, but there are many issues with that, not the least of which that even if I move the plants every couple hours, at best I'd be getting about 6-8 hours of sun due to shadows in my yard from other buildings. I completely failed growing tomatoes out there due to that and spider mites and other bugs that seem to be destroying everything in my yard.
You first need a heavy producer. Not all plants will have such big yields, no matter how much or well you care for them.

I hadn't thought about some of that. Ok. Thanks. Love your avatar by the way. Cute kitten pic!

Clone stage 24, germinate 24, seedlings 18-24, veg 16-18, flower 12-16. Per their website. I keep mine a little higher than the minimum. i split the differences actually

Just keep an eye on your tips and leaves any time you adjust your lightning. if it's too much, you'll know it pretty fast

Thanks for the advice everyone. I don't think HPS is a good idea due to the added electricity costs, as well as the heat. I live in Southern California, and it will be in the 90's - 115 degrees with very low humidity. So I think LED's probably are the way to go, and I probably will need a humidifier.

I've put in well over 100 hours of research. Watched countless hours of videos on youtube, read tons of articles, and forum posts. I'm still quite confused due to all the people who have different opinions.

While I don't want to drop a lot of money on the first grow, I also don't want to knowingly go into it buying stuff that will only be used for the first grow when I discover it isn't good enough. I am starting with autos that don't get very tall, and LST looks pretty strait forward, and if I eventually go with non-autos, it looks like I can top them as well as LST and SCROG to keep the height down. But, if I am definitely going to need a tent taller than 60in, I'd probably be better off dropping that extra $100 or so on it now since I don't have space for 2 tents.

I've been thinking about making a "space bucket" if I just grow one at a time, but I'm not sure if that is a great way to go.
Just a point, but a 600W HPS is going to consume less electricity than a 1000W LED. The key is in the Watts, not the light type.

Currently on my first grow aswell, I ended up buying a 2x4 tent, 1000watt LED, fans, Nutes and soil etc from amazon and spent 200 dollars (CAD) I didn’t bother with filters as I’m not too worried about the smell.
You do understand it isn't a 1000w led?
Probably 150w or less.

It’s 200watt +5%, probably more, yeah I understand

Edit: The light mentioned above offers 100 watts less for an extra 100 dollars, dude wanted to budget

But it’s down to OP at the end of the day

You know that is a 100w light that the manufacturer states will flower a 1.5' x 1.5' area. Would need 3 of those for a 2x4' tent

[/QUOTWatts are meaningless when measuring light. You measure light by par values and lumens. it draws a 100watts but has over 600 par at 18 inches. Im only growing 2 plants to start. This is my first indoor grow. if it goes well. I will get an LEC or HPS setup, unless this light totally blows me away, then I'll stick with LEDs. I also grow saltwater corals and they require insane amounts of full Spectrum lightning. im pulling 300w on two fixtures that produce over 900 par at 18 inches. Im anxious to see how this coco/ perlite 1:1 grow goes with this light

The manufacturer states it draws 100w, will flower a 1.5x1.5" area, and they are known to exaggerate just about everything.
100w of led wont equal 600w of hid in my lifetime. In par or lumens
