I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information so I figured I'd ask here..
I recently topped these 2.
They are both obviously sitting in the same 20 gal pot.
My first outdoor grow too. My only plan is sun and water, and I'll flip to flower whenever the hell seems good in the summer. Can I top as many times as I want with it reducing potency?
Height - no restrictions.
Smell - no restrictions
Overall size - no restrictions.

Dude, its me, haha. Hey topping just bushes her out. turn one top into 2, 2 into 4 etc. Each time will shock her a bit and won't progress well for a day or 2. So risk vs reward. Doesn't decrease potency. Your plants will only produce a set amount of bud based on its overall size and roots. So this just increases the surface area; instead of straight up, bushes out...tall narrow tree vs bushy short tree. You can get a more even canopy.

With a photo period indoors I believe you can veg forever and allow time for the plant to recover in between toppings. This is great as you control when it will start flowering due to the light you provide it. Outdoors it depends on where you live. I am up in Canada so the window is not the greatest. Plants will start flowering when the sunlight hours change naturally and you want healthy plants when that happens. You can top as many times as you like, just make sure the plants have time to recover before they start to flower. That's the way I understand it anyway.

Topping doesn't affect potency at all as far as I'm aware. If you top too close to flowering you can stunt growth or stress the plant out though.

More importantly, it's probably too late now, but never plant two plants in one pot. They don't like sharing root space.

Fair enough. I just thought it was big enough, this pot is freaking huge and it took so much goddamn soil to fill this bugger!!

As big as that pot is each of those plants alone could fill it if taken care of right. It's just generally better to plant separately
