Pretty bulbs glowing...and only $520 more to have the same thing in LED. All I'm saying...
Remember to factor in all the bulbs you will buy over a 5-7 year period. I made the switch to LED and I'm just getting them dialed in on my 3rd run. I started with 2 HLG 260watt kits, but realized that it was cheaper to just buy the quantum boards and heatsinks from HLG and bought the drivers, wiring and hangers myself. I bought the older V1 QBs that were state-of-the-art less than 18 months prior and only 3-5% less efficient and was able to build 2 260s (HLG550 equivalent) that are more adjustable for less than $400. When they decided to clear the inventory they dropped the price to $29 per board, so you could have built a 550 style light for less than $300, maybe $250 if you were super thrifty. They also had 730nm "far red" flower initiator boards for $9 and 660nm strips for $25, so I made my 4 lights into Rspecs for an extra $100. I've got QBs in my veg, one 260 watt and then 4 boards running on just 120watts lighting 2 2'x4' shelves for cuts and seedlings. All of this is running in a 10'x12' room and I only need AC for the 3 summer months, I actually have to add 1 or 2 CMH lights to keep temps warm enough the rest of the year. I don't know about you, but I was running Eye Hortilux bulbs prior and I know I would have spent more just replacing bulbs over 5 years than I spent on this setup, so it pays being a handy, cheapskate like me. I was just trying to improve the environment in my room, as it was definitely affecting my results, I never imagined it wouldn't be warm enough with close to 5000 watts equivalent, here at the verge of summer when it's starting to feel really hot to me in my room it's actually perfect for LED growing and I can see a huge jump in growth when it hits 88 degrees my canopy reaches the perfect 83 degrees and the plants explode. I actually had to change my light schedule in veg to 16/8 after listening to a lot of LED growers, the spectrum of the QBs really taxes the plants and was causing some deficiencies. They mostly cleared up by dropping 2 hours, but I still get the purple petioles that are common under LED. I'm testing tons of strains as I hadn't gotten new genetics in a long time, my head was spinning first time looking for seeds in over 5 years. I've been constantly running new genetics and looking forward to a day when I can do a single strain run at least on one trellis. I might have screwed myself this run with 4 strains on one trellis and 6 on another, plus the 6 are 2 weeks apart. Should be fun trying to extract the first 4 while leaving enough of the trellis for the others.

LED is the standard at this point for indoor plant growth. When funds allow I will convert. It's good business. However I will have to wait another 2 or 3 flower cycles to drop the $$ on the conversion. I'm adding a mini split A/C unit to the room and a co2 burner to completely seal it off. GreeneGene has a great video on youtube where he builds a $2500 LED light for $820 in materials. It's an incredibly detailed tutorial with links to all the materials needed. I eventually would like to build 4 for my flower room. The light intensity and spread of coverage without the HID heat is perfect for indoor growth. Plus the plants love the spectrum.

I'm not sure how I feel about hash plant after completing a flower cycle and drying the bud. The flowers are very resinous and dense. However they are not as heavy as they appear. As I took the weight on the first large container of tops I was quite surprised to see it only hit a 1/4 pound. Gorilla Glue #4 by comparison had much smaller flowers, but my god they were dense and heavy as rocks. Out of 6 hash plants in 5 gallon hempy buckets I have so far only clocked 1 pound 2 ounces. I have maybe 2 more ounces on the dry rack. All in all an under performer. The effect is a heavy immediate long lasting stone. The flavor is unimpressive and unremarkable. They received the same fertilizer as my 3 mystery ladies that were harvested 3 weeks ago and all taste great. It's just not a "flavor" strain. It just gets you good and stoned. The trim was high quality and I will process my first round of bubble ice hash in a 32 gallon trash can with a boat paddle. I'm hoping to rebound my yield a bit by pulling 30-40 grams of high quality bubble hash from the trim and stems. I have a lot of trim, so it may be 50+ grams. I have one more round of hash plant and then I will discontinue growing it. There are too many incredible strains out there to waste my time on ho-hum genetics. Life's too short.

With that being said I have ordered girl scout cookies, ghost train haze #1 X moonshine haze #1, and big buddha cheese. From the looks of the grower reviews ghost train and girl scout cookies may be some serious contenders. GTH is said to be the strongest strain on earth. We'll see. GSC is another high THC strain said to be solid genetics. Fairly bummed about the hash plant. I yielded 3 pounds off of 9 gorilla glue #4's on my last cycle. Out of 9 this cycle 6 being hash plant and 3 random ladies I totaled a little under 2.5#. I'll report back what I yield off of the bubble hash.

The primary problem with hash plant I believe is the weight of the flowers just isn't there. Even on the most resinous tops when you actually pickup a monster flower it's odd that it's so light. Rock hard and a grinder is needed to break it up, but they are not heavy. And to top it off I found a couple of seeds randomly while trimming. Only 2 or 3, but still. Pass on hash plant. Not worth the time.

I sampled some more today and the quality of the high is heavy and long lasting. Dam near fell asleep in the bathtub this afternoon. I think with the defoliation, stripping of the lower branches, and training I will have no problem hitting 3# out of the new cycle that is already under way. They have been flowering for 3 weeks in the veg tents to get a jump start on flower development. 5-6 weeks to go until next harvest.

I bought an old iphone 5s off of ebay for $25 just to take pictures in the garden. I'll post some quality pics when it comes in.

New 10k BTU A/C unit and 6" ducting to outside. Gotta keep the girls cool on the hot days. Mini split in 2 more cycles. Eventually adding 2 more lights to beef up the output.

Had a scare 4 nights ago. Transformer blew up because the whole fucking block is growing dope and with the high heat and all the air conditioners running the transformer lit up like a whore on dollar day. Needless to say I was shitting down both legs for the 7 hours of the outage. Transferred clones from my clone bucket into perlite hempys in the dark with a green headlight so they didn't die on me.

Ordered a 6500 watt gas / propane generator and 4 12/3 50' 3 port whips to run juice allover my house and to the grow rooms in the event of another power loss. $570 total. $200 off at the depot shipped to my front door. 3 year add on extended warranty. Good deal.

Due to low ceilings in my basement I cant Lowe my lights without also decreasing my lighting footprint. Solution when growing short squatty indicas? Stilts.

Now my ladies are nice and close to the lights for maximum penetration into the canopy. Also defoliated extensively. The stakes are for spreading the branches apart for light penetration. Maximum yield this cycle out of this strain. No fucking around :)
