Best way to beat the heat?

I was using 2 huge 65 cfls per an herb ive been trying to grow and had them about 2 inches from the plant as seedlings, the heat was never 2 uncomfortable for my hand but the problem was that the area surrounding the plants was near 98 degrees towards the end and thus they died.. how can i beat the heat cheaply. my main issue is always the damn heat

you need to get some circulation in there. how big is your area and do you have air intake ?

couple fans and a bit of ventilation should do the trick if just cfl's

Air con would be great but thats def not cheap. right now I have a 6"in line duct fan mounted at the bottom of my raised box in the middle blowing air upwards and there is a pot on either side of the fan

cfl should not be that hard to cool down, so what you are saying is that you have a 6 inch intake and a 6 inch out ?

well i have a 6 in intake but no out take because i leave my doors on my cabinet open 24 7

sorry mate but you can buy a portable aircon unit in argos for £40 odd n thats not exactly expensive!

you leave the door open 24/7? having an exhaust is gonna help you more than an intake. you need to get that hot air out of you space. in my veg cab i have 85w clfs and all i have is an exhaust and it works great. it might simply be too hot in the room your space is in. it doesnt really make since why it would still be hot in your space with it open all the time??? unless its simply too hot in your house. and if thats the case you might want to look into LED's, because if you cant run CFLs there is noway your gonna be able to run a HID lamp. well unless you get a A/C unit or you have central air. its a first by me though. peace.

okay, i am doing the same, my door is open ALWAYS.
well, took it down, just because it's easier to get into.
but, all i'm using, is one of those, holmes heater/fans (costed me $15.00)
i cut a hole in the back & leave it on during day & off for nights
it just gets too cold, for the room, with the fan on
i'm using, 2 100W CLF's & it works, to my expectations
& the little fan's to keep the air moving

rastacourage are those 100w each of actual cfls?? just curious cuz they look a bit small. im looking for small cfl's with a nice output of actual watts. all of the actual 100w cfls ive seen have simply been to large for me to use comfortely. i went to lowes looking for them and they were about 20 bucks a peice. thanks. peace.

they are 23W energy used CFL's, but, supposedly give off 100W
(similar to, type A bulbs)
they do produce 1600 lumens though, so, i guess, a total of 46W

they work, really well, i am going to get more splitters
but, for now, this really does my plant good

instead of bigger bulbs, why not, get a bunch of decent wattage? & splitters?
unless, you're really limited on space? lol

It doesnt produce the same light intensity if you use a bunch of smaller bulbs instead of bigger bulbs

i already have 4 of those same bulbs with spliters in a smaller space than you have with only a small exhaust and the door closed and sealed with no issues, simply a veg chamber only. those bulbs that you have are not 100 actual watts. im not limited on space at all i was simply speaking of my veg chamber. i run a perpetual, seed, sea of green with LST under a 600 w hps. i just vegged 11 plants with 4 bulbs in a smaller cab than you have. i flower 6 fems every 4 weeks and pull a harvest every 4-5 weeks. if you plan to flower that plant your gonna need more light. i hope you figured out your heat issue. by leaving that door open all the time your probably gonna end up with a hermi if you decide to flower like that. and with one plant i really hope its not a male for you. peace.

i'm upgrading lights, sometime this week
but, going to start using them, when i flower

i was just, giving the guy, who made this thread
an i idea of how, i handle & maintain my heat

sorry for the misunderstanding rasta. is that a clone you have in there? if not it looks like you have room for more plants in your chamber if you had a little more light to run with. you could veg and sex em in solo cups then once the fems show just simply switch them to larger container. i veg mine for 1 1/2-2 weeks under the cfls then i stick em under the 600 until they show sex then i stick the fems in their soil bed to finish. but everyone does have there own way of doing things. its just an idea. peace.

it's from seed, started off fresh
only thing is, my plant went through slow growth
i was using a 13W work light & 14W fluorescent...
but, recently upgraded to, 2 23W CFL's & it grew like, crazy!
so, i am planning on, grabbing some more splitters & CFL's, for my plants sake, lol

what i'm doing now, is an experimental grow, this is my first grow, actually
so, later, when i get my own apartment/house, i will grow, like the others on this site
i'm flowering, once my plant has reached 10-12" though, so, i'll see how that works out

i'll keep what you said in mind though
all advice & grow procedures, are very helpful to me

ive grown with cool white cfls mixed with warm white cfls in the past and it worked wonderfully with that spectrum. the warm white really seems to get them budding nicely. if you flower your plants with 2 cool whites to every 4 warm whites and veg with straight cool whites you'll have a very happy grow. i might do a cfl run in the hottest part of the summer next year to save some electric use on my A/C. hopefully by that time i can get me a new cord for the digital cam. you can get great results from cfls if used correctly. ive seen and grown some amazing plants using cfls. peace.

Try putting or mounting the 6inch duct at the top since heat rises it will help in pulling the air out... and if its not ducting to outside the room its kinda pointless as ive found out the hard way...
