Micro Grow - Comedy of errors

This is my first indoor grow - and I'm laughing hard at how many things I did wrong, so feel free to laugh along!
Flip side of the coin, I'm amazed at how tough these plants are - despite my many mistakes, I just might have some smoke in a couple weeks!

I have finally purchased a basic setup and light (another thread), so this is a one time setup.
I just wanted to see if I could go from seed to smoke and really didn't expect to get here. The (near) zero dollar build goal was a bit fun though!

Unfortunately, most of the pics have been deleted, but I found some - including the "enclosure" that I cobbled together - more below:

Feb - Friend of mine that grows GREAT meds gave me a bunch of seeds (25-30), and a 300w QB light with half the panel out. Fixed the light; the 12v power wires had cracked where they bend around the board. It still has a few dead and flashing diodes. I start shopping for a 4x4 setup.
Mar - Covid starts, job stops, spending stops. ------ I have a light, seeds, and a bunch of stuff in the garage - hmmm.
Here's the materials I used:
2 Apple crates, lined with cardboard and foil - not light tight till a few days before the flip (still questionable). Also - I added an absorbent "Bully Pad" underneath for spills.
18 x 20 x 34 (all measurements are "ish" interior).
4 seeds germ'd and planted in 1 pint(?) pots. --- I never re-potted, so now they're root bound dwarves - 14" - 20" tall - but still flowering.
Light hung from top with #36 bank line on a trucker's hitch. The rigging is no trouble, but I failed to rig a safety stop at first and dropped the light on them once (basic stuff!!!) :wall: Lesson learned.

This pic is from last night, you can see the "structure" More pics to come.

Sorry for the backwards progression; I never intended to journal these, just observe. So organization is lacking.
Again, I'm mostly highlighting my errors, but also how hard it is to kill these girls. :p

The attempt at manifolding is flowering nicely - I know I have shots of the others...
The close up is from the manifolded girl - the bud is almost as tall as my hand.
Canopy shot - half the panel (the fixed half) is losing diodes, so I'm crowding a bit on the other side. - power supply on that side might be weak...

You kept them healthy with that, though, so I'm sure you will do great with a proper setup. You've done a lot better than a lot of first time growers (:

Thanks! My friends and forums - this one particularly - are to be congratulated for any flowers harvested lol!

Found some shots from a bit before the flip.
The manifold has been beautiful, the quads could have been better; they're still flowering - but they were victims of the light drop - cut a whole branch from one...

Question - any idea how much longer to harvest? Calyxes are swelling and hairs are starting to turn orange (maybe 5% so far) - and the room smells great when I open the cabinet!

I got into the new tent and forgot to post a follow up on this grow.
GOALS:
Seed to Smoke
Did I enjoy the process?
Do I want to take the next steps down The Rabbit Hole?

Answer:
YES! - Huge thanks to my friends, this forum, and good genetics.

Dry weight - about an ounce - probably more, but I never weighed - weight was not a factor, just enjoyment.
Tiny enclosure forced me to grow dwarves and take a crash course in LST. It was FUN!

All were harvested too early, only the last two plants were close.
Came out a little airy. I think another week or two would have really fattened them up. Lesson learned.
First two were harvested 1.5 weeks apart, the last two were 6 days following that.
Found my jewelers loupe and examined all post-mortem. Sparkly!
All hung in spare room for 5-7 days or until crispy on the outside, but a bit of give on the inside. No big buds, so drying went quickly.
Paper bag (small), 3-5 days. - started sampling the first harvest at 3 days, the rest I waited longer.

Results are great - I cannot stress how enjoyable that first bowl was. bongsmilie
The other great satisfaction was giving my friend back the container he gave me the seeds in - loaded with buds.
Neighbors have been enjoying as well. Great to share!
As each plant has been sampled, there are noticeable differences in flavor and effect:
First plant tasted better than I expected - much better! A bit airy, but not too much so. Through a bong, I got a nice, earthy and herbal kush taste - but a tad "vegetal", followed by a whack in the frontal lobe and a good body buzz about 5 minutes later. Jarring improved the taste throughout - left the next plant in each phase for a couple days longer.

Plant two spent 6.5 days drying in the spare room, and the flavor seemed to peak at 6 days in the bag as well.
Taste has improved. A LOT more funk, even a bit of cheese after grinding. Vegetal taste is mostly gone. Much smoother.
Effects are stronger as well, same initial smack in the head, but the body buzz is much more pronounced.

Plants three & four have been in the bag for four days. Other than the pic, I'm not allowing myself to look until day 6.
They smell spectacular, funk, berry, & weed. Vegetal is gone or overwhelmed.
I have learned a bit more about drying and curing - next grow will be more disciplined.

Purples showed up on the stalks and leaves of the last plant, so I panicked and harvested... :wall:
