i plan to hav a box about 15x20 cm for 1 plant. 35 cm tall. 1 plant shud fit in there. my question is will 1 cfl be enuff? its 1600 lumens,23 watt and 15x20(if my math is correct30cm=1 foot. 15cm=0.5 foot.20 cm=0.666 foot. 0.5x0.666=0.333 square foot) is 0.3 square foot. i read on this forum 1 square foot of grow space needs about 3000 lumens so i wud need around 1000. i got 1600 so shudnt 1 cfl be enuff? ppl told me 1 isnt enuff. ok i can put 2 which shud be like over the needed amount. will it be alright? help a newby:confused:

You need about 100W for one plant. 23W isn't going to cut it. Add a few more(or one 100W CFL).

yah def. need more than 1!
ye but WHY??!!! theres enuff lumens why more WHY WHY?!!! i mean watts dont do anything to the plant lumens do(i thought). in the small area is shud be enuff. why is it not enuff? is there a reason? or is it just a law just like the law of attraction?

i've got 2 sixty watt output lights on one plant...i just got the second today, but with only one the seed sprouted in less than two days and got the first two serrated leaves in less than three...im hoping the extra light will just make it a little better...im assuming ur running a real cheap set up, as i am also, so im pretty interested...lemme know how it goes!

kid you use 1600 lumens, I use 110,000 lumens, I have a hard time getting 1 ounce per plant. your going to have a hard time getting 1 gram.

i c so the fact that 3000 lumens for 1 square foot was bs. ill use 2 of them, 3200 lumens for about 1/3 of a square foot. see how it goes. thx
cmon u dont use that much. do u? no way u use 110,000 per plant. if u do.. ill get maby like 2 gs lol

Not per plant, no. I can grow 3 good sized plants that are bushy and get a better than 1 ounce per plant yield or I can SOG style grow 16 small plants and get more actual yield, but a lot less per plant.

3000 lumens/sq. ft is the absolute minimum required for proper flowering.

5000-7500 is about right.

and you need at least one square foot to support a plant.

So if one is trying to flower under CFLs in a 2' x 4' closet you'd need 22 - 34 average CFL bulbs of the proper spectrum?

dude, i wouldnt worry. 3 or 4 or 6 cfls is negligable power draw and heat.
they are household light bulbs, man. the govt is not counting how many lamps you have in your living room. just put a fan and some lights in a box and go. 3000 lumens is a minimun recomendation, i think. think like this: less is not more. like PC game where you want to exceed minimum spec, so it is with the plant. they are just lightbulbs.
