HLG 650R vs Gavita 1700e

which one would you pick and why?

- I like the Gavita because of the equal lighting spread with the bar design but its $200+ than the HLG 650r.

- HLG 650r is cheaper, more efficient but it does not have the equal light spread that Gavita does which I think might be a deal breaker.

- I'm leaning towards Gavita 1700e becuase I feel like the bar spread outweighs the 650R's price and efficiency. the entire canopy gets equal lighting.

I didnt list Fluence Spyder 2i because its a couple hundred bucks more than the Gavita 1700e and has similar specs.

what do ya'll think? im thinking im for sure going to replace my bloom room's HPS with one of these choices in this next run or two.

LED technology is advancing so fast. Idk if I should even spend a grand for each light when a new, more powerful one is going to come out next year.

ya i bought the kingbrite 550s for veg... 4 of them. Nothing but good things to say like everybody else in here.

I just dunno about these other knockoffs of the Gavita LEDs, SFs, and Spydrs. Haven't seen any feedback from people about these kind of alibaba LED versions

550s are a no go for flower cause theyre not powerful enough. I want an LED thats almost as powerful as DE....cause I'm looking to replace 2 Gavita DE HPS. need the most powerful LED possible

Go with the Gavita's........ I just bought two, check out my grow that's 1 month into flowering. By the way, I LOVE them.

It's important to make sure you are doing an apple to apple comparison: Gavita's are waterproof, use 643 watts from the wall, have a 5 year warranty, should last 100,000 hours, etc., etc. Read ALL the fine print to be sure. But if you want equal or better results using them vs. HPS, you'll need some grower skills developing a level and even canopy, being able to read plant health and make fertilizer adjustments, and numerous other things.

Briefly comparing both lights:

HLG 650R negatives vs. the Gavita.......... 1. some customer complaints on website comments
2. no daisy chain hookup capabilities
3. UVB not built into unit but available as an extra attachment
4. no instruction manual comes with the light
5. 3 year warranty vs. 5 year of the G's
6. expected to last 50,000 hours vs. 100,000 for the G's
7. not waterproof (I'm assuming since they didn't mention)

HLG positives vs. the Gavita are...................1. cheaper by a couple of $100
2. smaller unit size by 12+ inches around and 5 lbs. lighter
3. just slightly better umol/joule ratings
4. more recent model/upgrade

I'll also venture the G's disperse heat more efficiently because of their design but I really don't think there's much of a difference in performance between the two of them and both are top shelf LED's.

Iirc the 550 is on sale RN. You may wanna ponder the alternative of 3x550 slightly dimmed for better spread. The Gavita might be a bit troublesome to hang//raise/lower.

Gavita is better when you want to keep the light closer to the plants which is possible because of the better spread. Then you would lose a lot less light on the walls. Boards are more for when you have a huge space and losing light on the walls isn't so much of an issue.

Gavita recommends placing the LED's at 18 inches in flowering........you're not going to lose much light at that distance anyway. I keep them at around 16 inches on average from the top of the canopy, and the buds are well developed for only 1 month in flowering.
