Using Bamboo in a hydroponic substrate

Hello folks. I've been on the lookout for some of the plastic coated plant supports to use, but with the lockdown they're all mail order and the only thing I can find in a shop is bamboo.

Would bamboo rot if used in a hydroponic medium, namely expanded clay ? I use a modular flood and drain bucket system.

I'm thinking that it being submerged in water and kept in a dark damp sterile place could breed some nasties. Any truth in my theory ?

I'm gonna need some support for a few dangly phenos, and I honestly dont fancy throwing a net over them as it's a bit late for that now.

That's an interesting question. I'm not sure, but I would say you'd probably be alright. Just use a towel with some HOT ass water to wipe the entire bamboo down before using it. Check it daily to make sure after a week or so it doesn't start degrading to mush.

My ass water starts lukewarm and cools from there. What is your secret?
