LED heat

Hi guys

Been growing for a very long time.

My current set up consists of 2x 4.5 x 4.5 side by side set ups, each under its own 1000w hps respectfully.

I have a humongous carbon filter with ducting exiting the room (12×8) via an extractor.

Airflow is fine and temp stable at 28.5c

I tend to grow scrog with 40 in each setup.

However, thinking of switching to led.

Was going to go 2x hlg 550 v2r but the drop off of luminums around the edoes is s concern.

So, here's the golden question:

I have seen some reasonably priced leds (not blurple) that measure 10"×5" and draw 100w power while putting out 800w equivalent light (epistar 3500) - 115 leds putting out 90 luminums each .

AlL use drivers and heat sinks no fans.

Probably overkill but if I was to run 9x units per grow site, so 18 units in the room, what kid of heat would I be looking at?

Cheers
J

You're going from 2000 watts to 1800, so you'll essentially be dealing with the same heat issues.

Any company that claims they make a 100 watt light equivalent to 800 watts is full of shit and should be avoided simply for the fact that they are assholes for using such pathetic marketing tactics.

The 550s will perform almost as well as your HPS lights, maybe a tad less. They're still warm, but not as hot as your 1000s. Doesn't HLG have a slightly more powerful light? I thought they did.

that 800w equivalent claim is unrealistic
a good rule of thumb is to replace 1000w hps with 1000w of led

*would like to point out that I'm happy with the yield I obtain from the 2x 100w hps, I'm just trying to get a better even coverage

At 50w per square foot my leds make my plants unhappy. 35 per they are just fine. It isnt an even swap
Oh, might be overdoing it a tad then :(

The issue I have with the current set up is light drop off on the pkants 3ft out of the centre. I don't want to add extra lights to the current setup as it will increase running costs :(

No. It's in the 700 to 800 watt range to replace an SE 1000. And that number is only for high quality LEDs. Lights with cheaper diodes or blurples, it's basically a watt for watt change versus an HID.

Have a look into building strips it's really not hard and will save lots . Another bonus is you can build eaxtly to your specific needs.

Your 2 1000s should cover a 4.5 by area just fine. If heat or electricity consumption are an issue, then yeah, switch them out. If not, then why even bother.

BTW, 800 to 1000 watts of really high quality cobs or chips would crush that space and would in fact outperform the HIDs. Something to consider.

Wish I could but I'd end up frying myself :(

These are the lights in question - as you can see, far cheaper to get 9 of these tgan a single hlg

For good reason. If you arent going to get an efficient led, just stick with hid

If i had your kind of space led would be out of my budget. In my 5 sq/ft it is easily within my budget.
Good Luck
