First grow ever

Hi guys,

this is my first post in this community as well, so thank you in advance for any support you're going to provide me :)
Preface: i'm a total total newb and beginner, i'm in quarantine, i'm running off weed and i wanted to try planting some: so no right growing medium, no ph test, no anything, i bought a couple of 50W led lights on amazon (LOL), and that's it. (i know this ain't the best basis to start from :) )

Well, i've got my seeds from Sensiseed Bank, autoflowering Sensi Skunk;
Went through the paper towel germination method, took a couple of days (first day i was scared about watering the paper too much, then realizing it was too dry and added more, the day after it came out);
Planted my seed (then i realized not deep enough, as the cracked seed sheel stayed on top of my seedling), anyway now it came off the ground.

Here comes my question:

-Please take a look at the photo attached, seems like the cotyledons are still together, even though you can see a narrow space beetween the two.
I know i should be patient these times, but question is: does it need a lot of light in this stage?
Which distance should i keep my 2x50W LED lights?
What about water?
Is there a "deadline" i should be looking to?

My issues: living in a building where i only get 4 hours of full light in the morning.
Will i be able to grow something with this hours of light + 100W Leds? (hopefully as the seasons walks by i'll be getting more sun hours :P )
How about watering? How much and how often?

Thank you so much for helping me and if you have any good advice i could follow i would be glad to hear it!

From what little experience I have: fill up an open container with tap water and let it sit over night to allow chlorine to evaporate. Adjust PH with General Hydroponics Up/Down kit to around 6.0 to 6.5. Amazon kit comes with PH dye checker. Water every three days - water today, don’t water tomorrow, & don’t water the next day.
If those cotyledon leaves don’t straighten out, that is 100% a failure in genetics.

To answer your specific questions, seedlings do best with lots of light. Those two amazon lights will be okay at this stage running 24 hours a day but you will need a better light if you plan to finish this adventure. Your windowsill light won't really help.

I personally don't like to water on a schedule. Water the little pot until you get some run off then let it dry out completely and repeat.

Sometimes the cotyledon leaves do stick together. Usually they break free but if they're still stuck after a couple days you can try carefully seperating them with a razorblade.

Also, I know you said you don't have a good medium, but what do you have?

If your serious about growing this little plant there's a few things you should consider investing in. The plant won't flower until you cut it back to only 12 hours of light a day, so you will need to isolate it at some point, whether it's in a closet or a grow tent or something similar. You should also grab a better light.

You can try to open it up, just be careful. I've gotten pretty good and taking off the seed shell when it is having a difficult time shedding it by itself. Once you do it a few times, it becomes less scary of a task.

You can probably leave it and it will be fine, may take a day longer or something like that. Either way i think you are fine.

Well Known Members, will misting the stuck leaves with water help them naturally become unstuck? I’m new to this as well... I did have to pull a stuck-on shell off of one of my Auto’s but I haven’t seen this problem yet. Misting the stuck-on shell helped. Maybe misting the cotyledons will help?

Autos :

Give them LONG HOURS of light , skimp on this , you might as well not even bother. Minimum of 18/6.

Dont overfeed them , Don’t overwater them ..... just plant and minimal care. You screw with them , they will end up being stressed and you will Affect harvest. You are just trying to keep it fed properly for about 90 days .... that’s it .... literally.

This is why it’s pretty shocking on how many growers gripe about autos. It’s literally stupid simple.

People kill more plants by overthinking things and adding shit that’s not necessary.

What do you think about minimal fertilizer application at first sign of bud growth for Auto’s given that he planted in Nutrient rich medium?
