White substance on stems of plants?

Hi everyone! BIG newbie here.

my dad is a newbie at this and I’m trying to help him out since he is NOT good with technology what so ever. He has a blocky flip phone and hates “smart” technology. He’s asked me to help. This is where I turn to you guys because I have no knowledge over these plants.
In the first two pictures, what is the white substance on the stem of the plant and is it too young to be identified?
All other photos: How do you think they are doing as a whole? They are growing under a grow light currently. My dad has been gardening for years but never this and I just want to help him out since he can’t work the internet as easily.

Brain-dump:

Seedlings look okay, don't do anything crazy. Soil mix looks good, don't put light too close/low depending on your type of grow light, go very very light on the nutes for another watering or two and then ramp up slowly, always give a good soak and maintain good drainage. You shouldn't need to water more than once every 5 days or even less at this stage, but will need to water more at later stages when there is more foliage and transpiration increases. Get good nutes, and dont feed more than half-strength usually, get a grow light good light. Less is more. Transplant to a 1gal pot next, then up to a two or three gal pot after another few weeks and before flowering, or larger if you plan to grow a tree. Veg with 18hrs light/6hrs dark, then "flip" to 12/12 light/dark for flowering the plant. Flipping trigger flowering to begin. Get a couple good fans and maintain good airflow through canopy, especially later veg and during flowering stage to avoid mold and bugs. Research "SCROG" here. Research how to tell when it's ready to harvest and how to dry and cure weed correctly, or the whole grow could be for nothing. Post photos and questions, and read a lot. Maintain 75-85deg F throughout, and maintain 55-65% relative humidity during veg stage, and then lower it slightly to 50-55% during flower stage. And lastly, have fun!

How long do you suggest the light being on for at this stage? And what nutes do you recommend?

18hrs on 6hrs off for several weeks till you want to start flowering. Then switch the light cycle to 12hrs on 12hrs off till they finish flowering and you harvest. I use Fox Farm liquid nutrients (the main trio), calmag, and some roots organics dry veg and flower mixes for amending into the soil and top-dressing a bit. I also use Orca for beneficial microbes.
