24 year old growing her first in plant in the closet of her studio apartment. RudeBoi OG, 600w LED grow lamp, 3 gallon fabric pot, FoxFarms Happy Frog Soil x perlite medium, Organic FFT (just banana so far) nutrients. Small fan for ventilation, veg lights are on 24/7 right now. Interested in low stress training. Any advice is appreciated, I am a total novice! Thank you all for contributing to my first bud harvest ❤ I am so excited!

Appears as though you've actually done some homework to get here. That's a great start!

That lamp you have advertises 600W, but in reality, it's going to only pull 60-120W from the wall, so it's not going to be the best flowering light. If you're sticking with it for your first grow, I'd recommend switching to flower relatively early, or as you say, you can use some LST.

You're getting to the point where you can top the plant, and start tying down the branches a bit. This will allow you to stretch out your veg cycle time as you can maintain a more horizontally even canopy that'll allow the light to be more evenly distributed over the plant.

Hang around... you might be interested in starting a journal in the "Journals" forum on this site. Helps to get feedback, and allows you to post updates whenever you want in your own thread.

Happy growing! :)

Agreed looks great. But like @spek9 said, you will want to add more light for flowering if you want more than a few grams of smoke.

Don't think I saw it mentioned, what is it you're growing? Strain and such...
Edit...nvm. just saw :)

Looks great for a first grow! It won’t be long until you can’t help yourself from looking for new lights and a tent. Welcome to the dark side!

OP's initial post claims its the RudeBoi OG strain (which I've personally never heard of that OG before), in Happy Frog & perlite.

Thank you so much, Spek :D I will definitely be checking out that forum and looking into better lights on amazon. Any recommendation on the wattage number? I was worried 600w would be too much for one plant, but if it only pulls 120w out of the wall, should I be looking in the “1500w” range of LEDs? Thanks so much for your response, sorry if my phrasing is confusing at all!

You're very welcome! Your phrasing and terminology is fine :)

Normally, I'd advocate for bigger and better lights, but in this case, you're only growing a single plant, so I'd say stick it out with the light you have for this grow.

When it's all done, you'll have a whole grow of experience. You'll have learned how the temperature and humidity hold up (as bigger lights create more heat and can require quite a ventilation extraction setup).

If you want to carry on growing near the end of the first run, I'd start thinking about new lights then.

In the meantime as you're working through the first grow, you'll have the time to investigate the various lighting, ventilation and other options available to you. If you decide growing isn't for you, no extra money has been doled out for a new light that you won't need (or bought improperly due to not having had the time for your own research). Also, you can decide to add new/more lights shortly after you get going and start learning the ropes, and understand the differences, pros and cons between different lighting systems.

I love that site, I also follow the young lady who runs the site on Instagram and she has even taken the time to message me directly a few months ago about the difference between starting from clone and seed. She is AWESOME. So sweet and super knowledgeable.

Your gonna get hooked!!!
Not "gonna". She *is* hooked. Men are ones who go out, buy a ton of grow equipment, then come to the site asking for advice before they even know they want to grow. Of course, that's all after the seeds have already germinated and there are scraggly plants on the window sill.

Women are decidedly different. They typically plan a whole heck of a lot better than we do, so when they arrive somewhere with a truck full of kit and state "I'm ready!", they've already made the plunge :)

That's at least my experience.

Well, you described my attitude towards the deal quite accurately, and I am indeed a woman. Any other female growers wanna pitch in?! I know y’all are out there!

Not gonna lie doesn’t look great ..., first mistake was getting a blurple. There are some positives however. Your plant looks healthy 2 you only have one plant . 3 hey man it’s great experience and is good to start small before you invest . Never know might v get high off it but keep your expectations low ...

Totally true! I started out when a friend asked me if I wanted to buy some clones. I brought them home that night and used my bathtub as a “grow room” with a goddamn spotlight on them until I received my first “grow light” which was a $50 blurple that pulled about 10W. It took me a few days to realize I was going about it the wrong way and I immediately ordered a small grow tent and an affordable light that was suitable. I lucked out, pulled close to 6oz off 4 plants, and I was hooked from that point on. My stupidity when I started is why I try so hard to prevent beginners from making the same mistakes I made.
