There are people out there who all they want to do is argue, even when they know they are wrong. It's sociopathic and narcissistic attention getting is all.

If someone doesn't care to learn, fuck 'em. It's when they spout their bullshit to other new growers who are interested in learning that's disappointing.
I agree, and that's why I was trying to clarify the difference between pruning and defoliation to them.

But, to answer your question, one big bush is a great way to grow as long as you have suitable airflow. If you have airflow issues, and high humidity, then thats when some people will selectively remove SOME large fan leaves to prevent stale areas of air.

Ok, lets play the definition gave again... "Yield" is how we define the amount of dried and cured bud. You don't have any yield yet.
That plant has been harvested. This is a new grow. Keep up bud. Does that pic looked defol? This why I have to ignore you I’m really sorry I’m sure you’re a nice guy.

If you couldn’t tell that there’s nothing more I need to hear.

It's too bad. I may be fairly new to growing, myself, but I have had great results, and I have learned quite a bit. I never said it looked defoliated, did I?

BTW, "harvest" is when it's done, but I see you just edited that :P

So you think I should just let my one plant grow like that pic, one big bush? Spreading it with LST? Don’t pull any leaves? I got good yield I’m just trying this out.
I think you should follow your heart and dreams! Seems like you're a person that needs to make the mistakes for themselves rather than learning from others. All the best.

If you want a protip you won't follow : Do twice as much reading as you do typing.

Anyone who doesn't exfoliate their plants is a complete noob. Everyone on Instagram does it so obviously it works. Just because you're old and can't get with the times doesn't mean it's not an amazing technique to grow awesome plants. I've been growing for about 2 weeks now and I can already see a difference in my seedlings after I plucked the cotyledons off. They ended up dying but that's the breeders fault and not mine.

look your lights dictate in what an area x depth there will be enough light for buds to properly thicken out. Pick whatever manipulation technique to hit this space and you should be good.

Some asshat on Reddit awhile back told a 30+ year grower that he didn't know shit and that new millennial growers, like him, are responsible for all the fire strains we have today. I wanted to smash my head against the wall when I read that.

HID's have better penetration. With a sealed hood and proper airflow you can get the light much closer to the plants than you can with LED's. That's how I roll. I cut no leaves but instead bath them in light so they can convert that light energy into energy towards making beautiful flowers.

So if my HPS light is strong enough for my room you think defoliation is not needed?

I’m using 600w

How close are you? I’m staying 16-18” away

Wtf
this is easy sorted I like to defol it suits my situation my lights oh shit is this a I can’t defol thread my apologies it’s all about what you wanna get out of you grow.
im not going to stare at a huge fan leaf that’s blocking a bud site ...
But I respect everyone’s Opinion

No one is taking issue with that. The issue is @Wattzzup insisting that pruning is the same as defoliation.. which it is not.

I would suggest you read this thread from the beginning. 90% of the discussion was a lesson in understanding the definition of the word "defoliation". If seeing a fan over a bud site bothers you then by all means remove it and make yourself feel better about your grow. It's one thing to understand things, while still doing the opposite, due to preference. It's another thing, entirely, to dismiss the definition of a word or practice just because you can't comprehend the definition.

I'm using a 600 watt HPS, sealed hood, 400+ CFM fan. I cut nothing. Big huge rock hard buds. Excellent yields for the space and wattage. I'm not 100% sure since it's been awhile but I think both these buds were from 1 plant that had been topped once. This is 5 - 6 weeks into flower. No way cutting off all the leaves is going to make these buds any bigger. The leaves are why the flowers are large. Big healthy leaves make big healthy flowers.

The issue today is that with so many growers using a dozen bottles of additives and twice the EC/PPM's they need they fry their leaves and photosynthesis which occurs in the leaves is severely compromised. The nutrient companies that have people overfeeding their plants so they can sell more products are now some of the biggest proponents of defoliation. They want people to cut off all the leaves so that people don't see how the products are hurting the plants. Symptoms first show up in fan leaves. Get rid of those and nobody knows for a little bit longer. But if you think something is wrong with your plant we have a product for you. :wall:
