First time grower, can i use lights that are meant for filming

thanks bro! Glad I’m not retarded or crazy. Apparently I’m just a noob! Lol which I admit but all the advice I provided was sound.
Hey some people have pre conceived ideas in there head, even though he is asking for advice he is just ignoring it, everybody has told him to buy lights specifically for growing weed but still seems like he will be buying photography lights lol, everybody has said to buy timers for lights which are a couple $ for the mechanical ones which IMO are the ones least likely to fail anyway, but no he is going to remember and always be home for 4 months to turn them on and off himself :wall:

Hello there.

I recently bought some devil harvest seeds and am eager to plant them. However i have never grown marijuana before and i have some questions. I would also like to endever in filming, video edeting and such, and was wondering if i could use the lights, that are primarely meant for filming, to also grow marijuana. Two birds with one stone . I was going to buy the led lights, how much wattage do the lightbulbs need to have and how many hours of light does the plants need ?
I would also like to ask about the temperature. I shall be growing inside, however the room where i wish to plant is sometimes quite chilly. I'd say from 10-15°C, but a lot hotter in the summertime.
You need to do some serious research. Watch at least ten hours of youtube videos on how to set up a grow room and growing in general.

Dude, you can’t make this up! Ignorance at its finest. Let him go down this road and keep killing plants. I’ll be chopping in 5/6 weeks and enjoying the fruits of my labor; you know why?

Cause I’m not growing under photography lights with manual light cycles, I have legit nutrients, pay attention to my pH, and I was wise enough to set my ego aside when I do ask questions of other more experienced growers.

From what I gather he is in his early 20s and not really looking for advice. Instead it app reads that he’s only looking for someone to confirm what he thinks he knows is going to work (which I think we all know is just going to be a waste of money, time, resources, and result in a lot of trips to and from his grow room to turn lights on and off.)

To each their own tho...

Some grow smarter, others grow harder...

No but i don't like your undermining deminer when you don't even know what horse manure is used for. Telling me if i ever planted anything. Also if you want to win an argument, avoiding topics, being insulting and trying to group everybody against somebody doesn't always work. Neither does having the final word. However there is a way to win, and that is by giving less shit about the argument than somebody else. Now lets go smoke some weed, i know i certainly will.
Late to the party, sorry if I missed it:
How many of those studio lights do you have at hand, and what size area are you lighting?

Oh, nice, last part of the puzzle :) . I was going to use one per plant, 18 inches away, or is that too little lighting? I mean if it's only the wattage and consistency of lights it should do right?

Total area? “Plant” is very variable.
Also since I am here, what is the color temperature of your bulbs?

Hm, did some quick calculating, the floor is 5.6 m x 2.8 m, but the problem is with the roof as it slides from 2m to 0.5. As for the lights i was going to go with HPS 600W lights with 2.000 K.

Just one. There is a 70x70 cm window with some extra lighting, but to be honest i was planning on covering it up and just using the lights.
You need a minimum of 6 of those lights to illuminate a square meter.
You won’t like this, but at this point I join the others in suggesting that you need to read up on lighting, color temperature, nutrients (whether in soil or hydroponically) and General plant physiology. There are no real shortcuts. You’re in for an experience. Peace.

I don't understand, is the problem with the lights or the light bulbs? I haven't bought anything jet, basically is it possible to use the lights and stronger light bulbs that emit more K or is the photo light incapable of such power?

With CFL, you’ll need a minimum of 700 watts/ square meter. Cool white (5000K) for veg and warm white (2700?K) for flowering.

For photo/film work, you can compensate to some extent for lower light levels by using longer exposures. That avenue is not available if you want healthy Cannabis plants.

I believe the studio lights you mention (but without those oversized reflectors) can be made to work - if you use many or have a small-area grow, and I mean no more than 40cm x40cm.

It’s your lack of understanding about the entire process. I know you think I’m just “being demeaning” but as I explained before, YOU NEED TO DO MORE RESEARCH.

There’s a difference between having no practical knowledge about growing herb, and having entirely no understanding whatsoever.

My suggestion- answer all the questions I asked you about your:
1) Water source- pH, and ppm considerations are important
2) Appropriate light sources and automation of lights
3) Environmental considerations- temperature at lights on and off, and humidity, and automation of these controls.
4) Grow medium and nutrient decisions- how will you feed the plants?

These questions really must be answered to grow successfully and meet the needs of the plant. At this point what you “think will work” and what will actually work are two very different things. The sooner you understand this, and recognize that you have a lot to learn you won’t get anywhere. I tried helping you, and offered you information that is generally recognized by growers of all skill levels and you discarded it as merely the opinion of a newbie.

You said you came here for help, but you won’t get any actual help until you actually become accepting of the advice that everyone has already provided to you.

Dude look at the link you posted on the lights, they are battery powered with a run time of 60-80 mins lol so how the hell you going to run them 18 hours! Also they are 9.6 watts, with top range LED's you need 35 W per square foot to grow good weed, please do some research before wasting your money.

Thank you cannabineer for all the information and your time, and the same goes to everybody else. BuddingHorticulturist i have already followed your advice and have bought the 3 gallon pots, and have remembered to keep 18 inches from the plants. Just like i shall follow speks9 and steve870 instructions about nutritions, and now that cannabineer explained it to me i might do a mix mach between the two lights. However i wish to try my own way of growing and am not afraid if i fail. Then i shall try again and know better. I am really going really chill into this, no pressure but will definitely do my best to help the plant grow.

Growing weed is not easy and going into it really "chill" you WILL fail. Growing weed indoor is nothing like keeping a "house plant" its like trying to grow corn indoors. It is an EXTREMELY demanding crop.

Yeah ill be harvesting my girls in a few days. It took probably a hundred hours of research to get me to this point. This guy is unwilling to do any research. There is so much information available out there.... But wants to try his own "style" even though hundreds of thousands of growers have turned growing weed indoor into an intricate science as well as art. He is unwilling to learn the basics and will fail.

This is what weed looks like when you put the right amount of effort into it.
