But basically a BX is a back cross, meaning a parent and a child were crossed. An Fx is a generational cross, meaning siblings are mated. An F1 is first gen, an F2 is a cross between siblings of the next gen, and so on. awesome thank you so if they are both cherry cookies but one is bx2 and other is f3 what would you consider to be more reliable, or desireableThis site explains the different terms...

so for the smaller tent grower the f3s are pretty ideal because i dont have space to do the big 20seedling hunt?? I was told by a friend to sprout a couple, take a couple clones off of each make sure all labeled, flower the clones and choose a keeper mother, then kill the weaker mother or flower it, and sprout another seed then between the one i kept, and the new seedling take more clones and decide another keep etc, does this sound good??

Just regulars i have been following the breeder and love his work so i pulled the trigger and i dont think he offers fems

I say don't worry about it. Just plant some seeds and watch them closely...it's fun making selections. Have you done any pollen chucking in the past? The skills aren't overwhelming...but the environment has to be correct. Having stray pollen floating around is not good...if you have other females around that you do not want pollinated.
What I do...because I have limited space...is to do occasional mass pollenations. I have 5 females of one strain and three of another (all different phenos) so all the ladies get pollinated...and then when plants are dried (I dry whole) I can test each plant one at a time...make notes on the high...and collect seeds for that one plant. In the end I will have 8 strains/phenos with bud and seeds to select from for the next grow. This is the second time doing this. Easier then the whole paintbrush thing.

edit correction...mass pollinations aren't necessarily easier, but more reliable. There's only one type of pollen around so all crosses are a guaranteed thing.

Right on thanks alot for all the help and advice, i personally will not be keeping any males in my house this deed is for my more experienced friend to play around with

I will just be hunting the mothers i like the most and want to keep around. currently i just have been getting gelato clones off of a friend, but i have a feminized gg#4 seedling growing, and my friend has a few other mothers ive yet to grown like blue lime pie, and some sativas (im not big on sativas).
But with my space im hoping to have a couple great mothers in my veg tent that i keep for a long time!

Are you good at cloning? There's a nice technique I call cloning for gender. As soon as your plants get tall enough so that you can take a cutting from it...take that cutting and place it in rockwool or whatever then under 12/12. Mark everything carefully. When the clones show gender...then you also know the sex of it's parent plant. I have old eyes and just don't trust pre-flowers.

Good plan. 3 of my flowering plants right now were clone Mommas. Now they get to fulfill their destiny...and I'll just have to find new ones once I start up again in the fall.

That is some great advice, ive helped alot around big operations getting alot of guidance but new to bringing to my house and everyday life style, so ive never taken cuts on my own and i will definitely be looking into this ! greatly appreciated

You actually have kind of a cool situation there. I say ask your buddy, once he gathers the pollen, to bring a little over to pollinate a single branch. I'm sure he knows how...but if you turn all fans off...remove the female victim to another room...pollinate a lower branch lightly and mark it. Put a plastic bag over the branch. Mist gently to deactivate any stray pollen and move her back. Remove the bag after a little while and maybe mist branch lightly. oila...seeds at harvest.
