Logic’s Bubbleponic Project

Hello Everybody!,

I am currently starting a DIY bubbleponic grow. I will admit that it has been a long time since the last time I grew. So any remarks or feedback is highly appreciated.

I used to be on a forum about 10 years ago that had the same bubbleponic tutorial by Roseman back then and my name was Phoenix. I had started a grow journal on there but right before I harvested my woman at the time took my kid and left me so I never finished showing pictures of the end product.

now that I’m 31 instead of 21 I’d like to go through with the entire grow on here. I’m just scarred of being rusty and have lots of questions.

I will be first growing 3 feminized Girl Scout Cookies in my diy bubbleponic set up. I order them on the internet so the genetics should be legit. They were the 4 beans that came for free if I order a certain amount.

I have already used the paper towel method and all three beans popped that’s right 100% popped (yes!)

I have already soaked my Rockwool over night with PH downed water and I have already rinsed my hydroton rocks throughly but am worried because I forgot to set in in PH down water over night. Thought I had to just rinse them until there was no more brown water. (As I said I am rusty).

Yesterday I put my popped Seeds into my Rockwool and closed the holes gently. I’ve awoken and can’t remember how long it takes for the the seeds to sprout??? I’ve also have forgotten when I am supposed to put light over them? Right after you put them in the Rockwool or right after they sprout from the Rockwool? (Yikes)

also I’m worried about the temperature of the PH downed water I have running through the set up. also I’m worried about if I put the irrigation tubing a little bit too far into the side of the Rockwool. I must of pushed it just barley into it.
Hoping I’m just trying to get used to being patient and it’s gunna all be fine. Please let me know if there was ANY mistakes done here at all. I have not added nutes yet and don’t plan on it until I see sprouting.

Lights:

I used to order all my stuff from stealth hydro back in the day but apparently they are not existent anymore so idk where I’m gunna get more of the big spiral lights I used to use. I believe I have two of them left.

I also have a 400watt HID light with ballast that I never used before. And I also have a LED light that I never used before too. Only problem is I don’t know how many lumens per square foot it puts off and a quarter of the bulbs in it don’t light...

as you can see all air stones and irrigation is working. Rockwool stays soaked.

I have it in my bathroom for now until I can see some sprouting or any progression. Then I have built an 8x4x8ft box in my garage for when things get serious.

and here’s just some stuff I got.

I am worried about this old pen from ten years ago. I used it for one grow then put it up and never used it again. I’m hoping I can just switch batteries or something and it work again because I running out of money for this project.

Also worried about the box in the garage due to the temperatures being pretty cold right now. I’m sure it will be fine when I have the HID light running. Should provide heat but can’t use that at the beginning so... idk.

Looks like you are about ready to do this! The TDS pen should be ok with a battery change. Its pH pens that get wonky/stop working when they arent used and the probe gets dry. My advice so far would be not to keep the rockwool too wet. Seedlings can damp off quickly in over wet RW conditions.
I have some questions of my own....
Which light do you plan to use in the meantime until they go in the 8x4x8?
What lights are you going to use in the 8x4x8 once things take off? A 400W hid wont be enough, even if you use the half burnt out led and a bunch of CFL's (spiral bulbs). If your temps in the garage are cold, the temps in the box will be the same without any kind of heat source when lights are off. Do you have any kind of exhaust in your box build?

Day 2:

No Nutes Yet.

PH: 6.8! W... T.. F...

literally just checked this now today and it has risen a whole 1.0 since last night. Ugh. Hope this isn’t going to be a roller coaster of a PH ride this grow.

I’ve adjusted it back down to a perfect 5.8 once again. Curious to see what the ph will be tomorrow.

Thank you thank you thank you for visiting my grow journal! Your the first to comment!

Okay so I do not have an exhaust at the moment but plan on making one as soon as I feel the time is right to use the box.

I know there needs to be fresh air in and stagnant air going out so I will get that going when I start to use the box.

I plan on using everything I got if I have to. I mean I think lumens per square foot wise the 400W HID light would be efficient enough for the box in general but you are right, when it does come time to flower the box will be so cold when the lights are off.

But! I plan on having a vegetative box for a few month before I start to flower. And by then I believe there will a world of difference in temperature.

This is what I got going right now for the mean time

I love to run dual spectrum during veg with 24hrs of light on at all times. Seems to speed things up quite a bit.

Do you have any suggestions on how to keep the seedlings from being too wet in a bubbleponic set up? I thought the irrigation to the Rockwool was a must? Should I pull the irrigation out?

Your gonna be stretching that 400W very thin in a box that size. If you plan to be running the box as a veg box for a cpl months or something running 24/7, then ya temps will likely not be a major issue, but as you use exhaust you in turn pull out the heat as well. Just some more food for thought. Youre gonna need to bump up your lighting a bit and get some exhausting setup for the box -even in veg.
Grow them under the CFL's until you notice some unwanted stretch. Then put em under something a bit stronger like the LED until they get big enough to be under a HID light. I'd get to working out the box *before* you need it.

Set the bubbler on a timer so it shuts off for a few hours at a time until you start to get some roots coming from the RW cubes. Then adjust from there. This early though I dont see a need for them to be saturated 24/7. RW holds moisture like crazy compared to other inert mediums like Hydroton and Vermiculite etc.

Ah man your great. Thank you a lot for your wisdom. I will unplug the pump for a few hours a day and get to working on the box.

the garage door gets opened a lot so I figured I would get the air in and out during veg without doing all of that right away but I mean your right again why not take Bette preventive measurements before I need it? Smart man.

Day 3:

No Nutes Yet

PH: 6.4! Ugh keeps rising.

I unplugged the water pump for a day so that the Rockwool wouldn’t be too soaked.

Today is day 4. I’ve dumped all the water out and put fresh ph downed water back in. I put it at 5.6 since it keeps rising so much. Just a Little test. We’ll see where it ends up.
I’ve plugged the pump back in for about 30 seconds and turned it back off. Just so the Rockwool gets truly wet for another day with the pump off. I really don’t want any type of root rot.

Day 5:

No Nutes

PH: 6.8....

Not sure what the problem is. Last time I adjusted it said 5.6 just because it keeps rising and it still jumped up that high. I’m really not sure why the PH rising so much every single night.
I’ve even changed out the entire water.

But hey at least I can start to see one of the roots
