First time growing outdoor don’t know when to start

I am planning on putting in an outdoor crop this year since it became legal For me here in Michigan. Right now it is mid February and I just ordered a bunch of seeds online I want to get them germinated and started in my basement I have fluorescent lights and the means to bring them to early vegging how long can I keep them in my basement and safely transplant them outside without them flowering early and may I over veg them in my basement where they get root locked to where they won’t grow larger outside

They are photo from @Useful Seeds. It’s mid February right now and we want to get them germinated by early March, I just wanted to make sure starting vegging wasn’t going to harm our final yield, and or product. Thank you!

When do you plan on planting outside? May?

Vegging the plants under a fluorescent light 2-3 months will make them quite stretchy to the point they may not hold up to a good outdoor breeze.

Can you get a better light to keep them under, so that they remain shorter and bushier until they go outside?

Also, you stated you've got photo genetics. They won't flower indoors if you keep an 18/6 - 24/0 light cycle.

We where planning on planting early June, since here in Michigan it’s not unheard of to get a nasty frost in May, if that’s the case we can always push back the germination a few weeks, we’re trying to work with what we have for light which are some old t5s. Basically I’m looking for how long I can veg them inside without hurting their chances of survival/ growth outdoors.

And as far as the 18:6 light cycle I was worried that when I put the girls out in the summer “few weeks prior to solstice” that the small drop in sunlight would send them into flower, being that they where used to the 18 hrs light

Long as you get them out in my exsperience cause I do the same as you are going to be doing. I start and veg indoors for 2 months prior to sticking them out. I wait till I know my spot is getting at least 14hrs of light if that makes sense. My yard gets awesome sun from the time it comes up and sets so once the sun comes up at 6:00 am in my yard and goes down around 8:30 which is about June I usually get them out end of May. I’ve had plants start to flower and quickly went back to veg so do what you were planning in June and you should be golden

so plant outside on June if you’re veging northern lights indoors for a long time? Illinois is the location

All depends on how big you want them to get. Northern lights stay small but the longer the veg inside the bigger she will get outside. And I live on Long Island, NY so that’s usually a good time to get them out. It’s when I usually get them outside sometimes a little bit sooner depending on how quick the warm air finally comes and stays and I think the last frost for where I live will be a lot earlier this year only got about 6 inches of snow so far very unusual and it’s been really warm for it being winter

So if I put them out on June first do you think I’ll get an early finish because I hear northern lights can flower in only 7 weeks.

I would top them after a month or so in veg keep lights as close as u can and def use a fan on them then u gotten harden them off when they go out last make sure u got enough season to grow them out I live in New York I grew ice which is a nl cross I had no where near enough time to grow them out

All you have to do is slowly change the light schedule to meet sunrise and sunset. a few hours change over the course of a few weeks and you'll be fine, as long as you have more than 12 hrs light outside lol

I have a timer but my math skills are week since this is a fast flowering strain I’m thinking pop outside 10 weeks before October?

If I wee in MI and could grow up to 12 plants legally, I'd invest in a light.

I'd start autoflowers inside under 24 hours of light on May 1. On June 1, I'd put them outside to finish. Also on June 1, I'd start my photoperiod seeds and nurture them under 24 hours of light until moving them outside on July 15. I might use 'fast' photoperiod seeds dependent on how far north I am in MI.
