Hello I’m new to this thread, it looks awesome! So if the title holds true, here’s my current situation. Anyone have any clues?

I’m upgrading from 400w HID to the BudgetLED Series 3+ Red Spec 500 Watt Dimmable in 3500k in a 4x4 with 4 week old Sativa dominant mainlined plants in 7 gallon pots of soil. I’m going to train and veg the plants for another 4 weeks before flipping to 12/12.

I think this light is going to blow the roof off of my last numbers which were already pretty impressive using the mainlining technique under the pictured 6” air cooled reflector hood.

What should I do when first switching to these lights? Run them full blast, or partially, slowly increasing watts over time?

Also, what heights should I start at in the beginning before fine tuning my height when determining my plants appetite for the increase in light?

I’m thinking of starting at the full 500w at 36” but think I should wait until all my tops are pointing upwards again since I just bent everyone over more today as you can see in the final picture.

This setup is supposed to be equivalent to replacing a 1000w HID.

We will see how I do.

Does anyone have experience switching from bulbs to LEDs they’d like to share? I appreciate any advice!

PS: the new lights show up today and I can post an updated photo after getting it setup.

Hi Fred, welcome to the thread. Nice setup bud, love the main lining.

I am not very familiar with your exact lights, so can’t comment on them specifically, I did a little reading and the reviews are good, they seem like they are gonna be very good for your space.

I think your plan of starting them up high is a good one, on the flip side, you can always dim them and have them closer, it’s more of a preference and a little energy savings.

seedlings 12-15,000 k lux
Early veg 30-40k lux
Flower up to 75k lux

These are the general guidelinesmost led guys use for their plants. Buying a cheap lux meter makes life very easy for dialing these lights in.

Moving day, finally!!!
I wish this damn site would stop turning off notifications for posts I want to follow.....
Looking great!! Those roots are so white, i bet these are going to explode this coming week.
I love seeing other people giving them time to grow in the cloner and get some nice roots established. It really makes transplant and the transition into the system so much easier.

haha thanks man. Since that last post of mine, I ran into some issues with My new pump and had to make an emergency transplant back into the veg box.

Im in the process of resolving this situation as we speak lol.

it’s the unforeseen shit that gets ya lol. New pump just out of the box the day before, just stops working on day 1. I’m just lucky I was home and caught the failure quick, or I woulda lost all 8 on the clones.

I had an overflow once that just happened to start right as I unzipped the tent, was the craziest thing.
Glad you caught it early though!

Awesome! Heading to the grow shop for a clip fan so I’ll get a lux meter while I’m there!

Yes I am. I’m growing in a spare room that I use as an office so it stays really quite and get get 100% darkness during sleep hours. External room temperatures fluctuate between 68 - 70 degrees in the winter and 72 degrees in the summer. Inside the tent I’ve been maintaining some great temperatures but that is because I’m leaving the office door open. I want to be able to close and secure the door so I think having the LED lights with my circumstances will keep my temps manageable and not too low. I’m currently keeping the glass closed on the hood and keeping temps between 77-81 degrees and humidity in the low 40% range. CB9B18E7-AF4D-4CF1-92A7-6DEDCEBF4130.jpeg

Ya as far as im concerned, anyone running proper led fixtures should have themselves a lux meter, gives the grower an idea just how much light the plants are getting and allows for adjustments.....its far from perfect , if you want damn near perfect readings you gotta spend big bucks on the apogees of the world. My lux meter is Dr.Meter , it cost me like $40 cdn.....works fine for what i need.

Ya i got very lucky...I was about to leave for the day on skidoo, decided to pop in the room before i left just to see if the bigger girls needed to be watered, because i had planned to be gone until late that evening. When i walked in my plans all changed lol, the clones were wilting hard and so was my heart lol

It was a sad moment hahaha

They perked right back up tho once i put them back in the veg box, resilient little gals.
