Seed germination, to light or not to light?

Hi,

I'm germinating my seeds in rockwool and getting mixed information on whether to turn on the light during germination.
Looking for a definitive answer here!

Light is not needed till the leaves open

I usually have issues when i germinate with light, but heat is needed.. So i cheat i germinate in a paper towel in a plastic bag, then i leave the bag open put it in a magazine and put a single 1" square piece of tape on the magazine to keep it shut and i leave it in the grow tent where its warmer then the rest of my house, 1-4 days later bam a seedling with a 2-3 inch tap root haha its all about using whats around you!

that's the length I usually catch them in even if its 1 day after I paper towel them. but i find it works well cause i don't have to second guess how deep my finger goes into the soil. poke plop fill in DONE

That's what I usually do too but I've been skipping the soaking stage, I've been getting ALOT of fresh seeds lately. They pop usually within 8-12 hours, but I found checking the pH of the water your using to soak them makes a difference, my tap water is very acidic and was ruining them, so I brought the pH to 6.5 bam amazing results.

In my very novice 4 years of growing I've not ever checked ph, outdoors in ground and in 20 gal pots. Not once ever. I probably really should get into it.

Its not manditory at all but when i found out how acidic my water was i dialed it in and bam results.

What's the point of light if the seed is still underground?

I soak for a day and drop them in trays on a heating mat near my mothers. Some light from the mothers hit them.
Once they start popping the shell I put the trays on top of the cloner or between vegging plants under HO T5s either way.

same, i drop em in a rapid rooter once I see a tap root, the longer I leave em in the paper towel the more delicate I have to be during transplant.

Lol works so well ill be honest i was kinda thinking to myself why have i been finger fucking my germinating seeds, when i can use cupped tweezers.

You must be a hydro grower. I just put mine in the dirt. No fingering of the germed seeds here
