How much air /minute should my pump push thru 1 single waterfarm, not looking for minimum, more like maximum for best flow.
Thanks!

From my understanding too much isnt the best for water farms. You get too much splash out. My buddy has an 8 site farm going and the pump that came with it is splashing too much. Of course I think he needs more hydroton but it is indeed putting out too much water.

Pardon me for bumping an oldish thread but @rkymtnman I see you all over the Waterfarm related posts (I just picked one up this evening) so I wanted to ask you if you find it necessary to cover the hydroton to prevent splashing seedlings or to deter algae build up.

yes i do. i take some panda film (blk/white) and cut a square cover for it. and for both reasons you mentioned.

Thanks, man. I appreciate it and might very well take you up on the offer. Yeah, I've read just about every WaterFarm fanatic forum post that there is and think I've got a good handle on the mods. I actually picked up a Power Grower version of the WaterFarm. Its grow pot actually has slot shaped holes (I made sure to add plenty my own holes) and it has a three gallon capacity as opposed to the WaterFarm's two. It's actually three inches shorter than the WF which is good because I need all the space I can get in my little cabinet.

nice move, the larger reservoir will come in handy.

never heard of that one. gotta take a look at their website. if it's better than the original, you're in for a wild ride. lol. i think the best moment is when you get done with a grow and pull up the top res, the bottom res is just a solid cube of nothing but roots.

i think the best mod that i made to mine is to run it drain to waste with a daily feeding. no worries about pH or EC issues.

I set myself up with an assortment of AN's Perfect pH goodies so hopefully dealing with pH will be non-existent for me. From what I've seen, the only people that have had problems with the Perfect pH products are those that insist on checking their pH.

I forgot to ask, when doing your daily drain to waste are you replacing your res with two gallons of fresh nutes every day or just adding until a predetermined amount of runoff is achieved?

i top feed for a set time to get a decent amount of runoff. i cut the blue tube about an inch or so above the white line so that becomes the drain.

Gotcha, thanks! Since this is my first go at this, I'll just do as directed and top off with water as needed and maybe one day when I get the hang of it I'll try doing DTW. As it is, the feeding schedule that I'll be using changes every ten days so things should be pretty straight forward during veg but all ofthat can change once flowering begins. One thing's for sure and that's that I'm bound to learn a thing or two along the way.
