Making oil: Straining myself to death

Hey growers, I need your help!!!

Please tell me there's a better way of straining the ISO/everclear , than 1 coffee filter after another .

I'm slowly straining myself to death over here.

Have any of you guys come up with a way to help speed up the straining process for big batches of oil?

I have 2 coffee pots with filters going and 3 mason jars all with filters going, all 5 being switched out constantly after one strain per filter.

I'll spend money lol. Send help!!!!

Not exactly sure what would be the best, but you could get some steel 25 micron mesh or smaller if you can find it and use that as a filter instead, or possibly some cotton wool bunched up in the bottom of a funnel with some steel wire beneath it to stop cotton getting through

Probably Wont be as clean as a coffee filter though, it would pour through in minutes as apposed to hours

Ya this is the main issue, needing the same finished product as the coffee filter produces....I dunno if it exists lol

They do a great job, but take forever

Don't grind the bud when making your oil. It makes a lot of fines that quickly plug the pores in any filter.

Add the whole bud to the solvent and mash it up with a wooden dowel or something similar. just mash it up good then pour thru a strainer first. No rush once the solvent has been removed from the pot so let that settle then decant carefully into your coffee filter so most of the sediment stays on the bottom. I used one of those mason jar wide-mouth funnels with a basket style coffee filter in it and a fine strainer above to pour the ISO and pot into first. Still plugged the filter up fast and I only ran the bone dry pot thru a 1mm mesh screen so it's mash up buds next time. Made nice golden brown oil tho. Wife is using it for tumors and I'm smoking what I can scrape out of the little beaker it finished off in after decarbing.

The lumps at the bottom of the beaker are boiling chips from when I cooked off the ISO in a larger beaker. Makes the boil a lot smoother with them in there. 20g of older bud made 4g of nice oil.

I do my runs basically the same exact way as you described. I never grind my bud, I use wide mouth jars along with coffee machines and filters for straining.

It works but it takes forever when running large batches.

I'm looking/hoping to find a faster or easier way. I'm just not sure it exists lol

Vacuum filtration is faster and sock filters don't clog as fast.
I'm still relatively new to extracting so I'm not real familiar with vacuum filitration or sock filters.

I'll do some googling and see what I can find. Do you know for any threads of good articles or YouTube vids on the subject?

Thanks

I've done much larger batches but scale it up and prefer to use naphtha for my solvent. I bought 2 cans of Coleman's Camp Stove fuel that I am going to distill to make nice clean naphtha. I get a little over 3L out of each 1USG can. Gotta be Coleman's tho. Has a nice low bp compared to others I've tried. I cook it off at 71-74C and my still will hold a whole can. I have a smaller glass bottle to cook the oil mix off with to reclaim the solvent. As soon as I get that done I'll be doing a half pound batch at least to make lots of RSO for the wife. Some high CBD oil for me too. Want to make vape carts and roll-on topical with DMSO. I dissolves the oil really well at room temp but I need some finer filtration for a cleaner product.

Silkscreen material is strong and fine (comes in different sizes), can be rinsed and reused. I wrap it around solvent soaked material and squeeze/wring it out. It can also be attached to a jar neck with zipties (reusable ones work best) in place of coffee filters.

Syringe and syringe filter works for me. Just gotta pump the plunger back and forth to unclog the filter, makes it go faster

Sorry I don't, but I do have some dirty peeectures from a decade or so ago that I can share. For equipment, you need strainers, a Buchner funnel, a vacuum flask, and a vacuum pump, in addition to the filter media.

For the first filter I pour the material through a 10 mesh pasta strainer sitting a fine Chinois strainer (~36 mesh). Google Chinois strainer if you are unfamiliar with them.

That gets rid of most of the solids, which I take out with a commercial coffee filter(~25 micron), sitting on top of a #1 (~20/25 micron) lab filter in a Buchner funnel.

If I want it finer than that, I follow up with a finer lab filter, followed by a 0.2 micron syringe filter.
