To all the newbies, like myself, I have a few words of wisdom for you all ...
First off ... PATIENCE ...
Your grow box and lighting are what you can afford .. it's all good ... just make sure you have enough of it ... remember ... it's a weed
I used FL and bought a MH/HPS light right before flowering ...
One thing I can say about the first few weeks in veg is that you need the proper distance of your lights to your babies and a fan of some sort to promote strong stem growth.
It's all really in the genetics of your seeds. Let's say you start with 100% potential of your plant ... every time your over/under water, over/under nute, improper PH levels, etc ... it takes off of your 100% potential ... remember ... it's a weed
I've done it all, to include breaking a big stem, but I propped it in my box and it came back stronger ... remember ... it's just a weed ...
When it comes to flowering ... don't be so anxious to find out if it's a male or female ... trust me ... you'll know ... even if you think it's a male, you'll give it a few more days and you'll be able to tell ... it's not hard ... you'll be like me and want to make 100% sure prior to cutting it down.
Another thing, I had to crop one because of an accident and it turned out great ... I totally understand the hesitancy to cut your baby in half, but it's a OK ... but maybe on your next grow ... remember ... it's just a weed ...
I sort of used LST because of height restrictions and I think I'd use it sooner next time ... but just grow yours as tall as you can ... cause it is all about size and yield your first grow ... I remember wanting the biggest and fattest fan leaves and buds ... but it's all good ... remember ... it's just a weed ...
All the gadgets are totally cool ... I have PH tester, moisture tester, humidity, temperature, etc ... I do believe that these are really necessary if you are trying to reach that 100% potential ...
As far as nutes, I had Fox Farm and it worked great ... but it's really hard to determine 1/4 to 1/2 recommended usage and who's recommended do you use ... just feel out your plants and you'll know ... remember ... it's just a weed ...
Tricky part for me .... trimming/manicuring really sucks!!!! I thought it would take forever after doing just one or two stems ... it really gets much easier and I can honestly say that I used hair cutting scissors and tweezers ... it makes it much easier to pluck the smaller fan leaves ... 7 plants = 12+ hours ... you will definately feel like you've accomplished ALOT once it is all said and done ... you will feel hesitant to cut off the smaller leaves because you can see the trichromes on them ... it's your preference ... remember ... it's just a weed ...
And last but not least ... when you think they are ready for harvest ... wait one or two more weeks ... trust me ... it makes all the difference ...
Good luck to all you newbies and happy growing!!!
Remember ... it's just a weed ... YOU'RE WEED!!!
