Theres a lot of variables that go into determining actual efficiency, and by no means does a blanket statement of "50% efficiency" correspond to all LED's.

Samsung is ~61%-67% efficient. Others are creeping up as well. Horticulture phosphored LEDs are generally between 2.2μmol/J - 2.5μmol/J.

Example:
30W/ft2 × (~2.2μmol/J) = 66μmols·s/ft2

10.76ft2 = 1m2

66μmols·s/ft2 × (10.76ft2/m2)
=
710.16μmols·s/m2; 710.16 PPFD

...

30W/ft2 × (~2.5μmol/J) = 75μmols·s/ft2

75μmols·s/ft2 × (10.76ft2/m2)
=
807μmols·s/m2; 807 PPFD

With LED the light spread is more uniform, between 700 - 800 PPFD will produce great buds, and over 850 PPFD is where you'll start to run into "diminishing returns." This is the reasoning behind "30W/ft2."

damn bro, i dont think theres anyone on site that consistantly puts time, thought and energy into throwing down legit post after post like you do.

glad we have you bud

I think he gets paid to push those lights there are cheaper solutions out there and yeah he is always trying to shoot down something that has roots in reality

@It.killed.elvis you got confused and thought I was describing chip efficiency when I was talking about the driver efficiencies. I am making my own custom lights, but you won't find me basing any generic opinions found on this site off of emotion. All my opinions are backed by data or else if I'm not knowledgeable enough to form an opinion about a subject I'll say that I'm not sure, or that I don't know. Find me a post where I'm "shooting down" any type of new research or technique. I think you'll find that I'm actually the guy having to fight against industry standards and norms, that I'm the guy proposing new ideas stemming from the realization that the new data flies in the face of old tradition. I've been pretty hot on UV LED and had to argue its effectiveness (till finally more recently it's starting to gain traction), I've been pretty hot on mono LEDs and Spectrum and have had to argue in the face of "photons are photons" ect, I've been proposing an 8hr cycle which has 0 traction as of yet. I don't think you'll find me arguing in defense of the norms unless it's my opinion they are the "best practice."

i think you dont know Chief at all if you think hes biased towards any lighting.

He was asked to come in this thread and help the OP with driver selection, hes not "PUSHING" anything, hes giving the info the OP needs because he has chosen to use the J series strips. Chief never once mentioned any type of brand or company to the OP.

As for so much cheaper options? SHOW ME...where else are you gonna find cheaper but better options than the J series?

Bxeb gen 2s are the only other strips i know that are cheaper, but they arent better.

Please enlighten us

How can i delete my profile you guys are closed minded biased and allways shoot down somebody trying to provide people with many options not just what you like/use 2 1000w chips for 48$ is great they have a ppf efficientcy also thats 24$ for 1000w and high ppf values im working so i dont have time to did up numbers. But damn i only try to open the mind yall try to channel it to your way of thought. I always say average your common ponits and your own truths. But noooooo not how this place works huh? Just be close minded to all that follow the agenda ehhh? Fuck this im outtie ✌

I apologize for coming off that way, but you also decided to come into this thread where i spent a couple of hours helping the OP plan and source parts for his build and decide to start shitting all over it. The J series strips are legit, i grow with them, i can run them soft and basically lay the lights on top of my plants for damn near perfect LUX numbers across my canopy.

Obviously we know theres cheaper options out there but that dont mean they are better options, or even similar.

Growing with softly run strips and growing with 1000w cobs are 2 entirely different animals, so not sure why you would want to come in on page 9 and decide to tell the OP and us who helped him that he can do better lol

So once again, ill apologize for coming off douchey

That's hilarious, did ya get that from the data sheet?
The listing says 2600LM! :wall:

Wow, I missed some of what has been going on I see lol. I didn’t mean for anyone to get upset, argue or butthurt! I started with a question, then started discussing diy and @diggs99 gave me his opinion, I liked it, he then offered to help me and we went from there. Again, thanks to you that have been helping me as I really appreciate it!

No worries, you're fine, elvis ruffled feathers with his very first post. You're gonna love that light, it'll crush 1000W cob's without breaking a sweat.
FWIW, I like Meanwell drivers with AB type dimming.

Hey bud @welight, thanks for replying. So, my new friend @diggs99 has been helping me here figure out what would be best for my 10 x 5 tent and we've came up with 4 fixtures at 2' x 4' covering a 4' x 8' canopy. Looking at going with 8 strips per, using 4 strips of 3000k and 4 5700k. @diggs99 mentioned that you carry everything I would need to build my fixtures. I was looking at using some 80/20, 1" heatsinks from Heatsink USA, but the driver wattage is where I'm lost. @ChiefRunningPhist had mentioned above some drivers to use, wattage and how to wire. This is all new to me so bare with me plz lol. Honestly, I can't believe all the help and support I've received here and I'm truly thankful for all your guys help!! I hope I gave you what you were asking, if not just lmk. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Do you think more than 30w/ft is worthwhile? How many watts are you running for flower? Can ya post a link to the exact J strips under discussion, the ones I just looked at are 15mm wide.
I dunno tbh. Im running 40w/ft2 with the 15mm J series and i had my lights dimmed and slammed on top of my plants for the majority of flower, while still achieving good numbers across the canopy. I think having the option to increase wattage or intensity is nice, some strains enjoy it.

The new strips are 24mm, here is a link

Assuming HLG drivers, your choices come down to 240 or 320 watt drivers, the 320 costing about $20-$25 more.
