What was this magical strain? Can you guys figure it out? HELP PLEASE!

So I had a super strain of weed as a kid and have spent a lifetime trying to find out what it was to get it back. Can any of you guys help?
15+ years ago, as a young man, I pulled a bud of excellent weed out of a bag of shitty PineBud weed. Amazingly in that bud was a single seed. We planted it that year and low and behold it was a female plant. We budded out that female plant and to this day it was one of my favorite weeds. Me and a few buddies grew it a bunch more times and everytime it was outstanding. Eventually given our age, the time and our nomadic nature we eventually ran out of clones and mothers and that was the end. Since then we all grew up to become productive members of society and turn into old, responsible medical patients. My buddies and I still discuss this weed. How easy it grew, how utterly amazing it smelled and how nicely it cured.
We would often smoke in a backyard pool hall. We would play a game where we would start to break up a bud inconspicuously on the bar. Despite the place being full of weed and cigarette smoke we would notice within seconds heads starting to turn. People trying to see where this smell came from that just graced their nostrils.
I need that weed again!! Was it a rare pheno of a common weed? Was it a common type of weed that I just never saw before or since? Please PLEASE I need your help.
The weed had the following traits (that we can remember):
(i) Seemed to be largely indica
(ii) Grew fat fan leaves and the edges weren't sharp at the edge but rounded
(iii) Grew extremely easy
(iv) Almost had a reddish/orange appearance from the really orange hairs. This was important at the time. The whole bud almost had a hue of orange to it.
(v) The smell was immaculate. Extremely strong. In an effort to narrow it down I have since asked my buddies the best way to describe it. Their comments: " Smelled sour... but in a fantastic way" , "Sharp... distinctively sharp... wish I could smell it again", "Kushy... but before we knew what kush was"
(vi) The leaves when growing were big and crinkly.... we called them cabbage leaves

Thats about all I can remember. It also cloned super easy. We had less that ideal conditions for most of the grows and they were all deadly. Does this ring any bells? Any suggestions? I have some ideas what I think but I dont want to bias the answers. Please help me and my friends relive our child hoods one more time!

That bright sour smell, rememberable high and healthy growth is gonna come from short chain fatty acids, the missing component to the store-bought "terp" shit people mistake for quality in legal states.

Sorry I can't help, but have always found it intriguing that the best cuts that genetically maintain their fatty acid/fa enzyme profile through various abhorrent growing conditions are never intentionally bred, but come from a purchased bud with exclusively 1 seed that happens to choose the female gender. The weed is trying to tell you something...

I feel sorry for people who think the shit "breeders" put out is worth growing. I got one of those crazy solo bagseed going right now, blows every seedbank "cheese" I've seen in years out of the water. Sour sour fuelly cheese, if cheese were made out of lemons and gasoline was made out of cheese, its all I smell when i open the door. The bud it came from was on the dessert spectrum not cheesey or loud. This weed is begging for help. No idea how a single seed shows up in a branch but it always blows the mom away 9/10.

Today's "breeders" are simply spreading garbage and honestly i questions how much of it is accidental and how much is sponsored by some huge conspiratorial network to ruin domestic Cannabis standards (when you think about who gets busted in this country, and who's allowed to open 40 acre grows, this doesn't seem far fetched)

I like the afghan x skunk idea. After a few days I will tell you my opinions up to this point. I just dont want to bias people opinions upfront. As far as bagseed, breeders, etc I do think some of it is based on expectations. We have high expectation for breeders and low expectations for bagseed. So when we do pop that awesome bag seed we rave about it forever. But if a breeders seed doesnt meet or exceed expectations (which are often set way too high by breeder) we are disappointed or mad. If I knew what the bag weed was maybe I'd find the bagseed less agreeable than the strain as it comes from the breeder? Who knows. I have spent alot of years now trying to figure out what strain it was or what strain it was close too. I have exhausted my resources (outside of luck) but truthfully I feel someone on this forum might easily recognize the traits. While I have grown lots of different strains and certainly smoked a wide variety there is still no telling to the strains I've missed. To someone else this may be a common product they had. Let the weed gods smile upon us!

Hey now. Don't talk about today's breeders that way. They're Gods in the eyes of many. The pollen chucks they make are worth $20+ a seed. They're so good at breeding that you have the opportunity to find more than a dozen different pheno's from their strains. Super Pineapple Skittles Sherbert Haze Mumbo Jumbo Give Me Your Money is the best strain ever! Making seeds is rocket science and these guys are going to the moon. Just look at that cool label! That must make it good. You have to grow the latest "In" strain because everyone else is. It's the best until they release that limited edition Chocolate Urkle Peach Pie Cookies and Cream Kush Berry Ice. Run don't walk to get their gear! Don't miss out! Get it now before it's too late.

Thats not entirely true. Theres some strains that I have experience with from that time period that if someone gave me a few details I could suggest a strain I new. For example, if I had a name for this strain at the time I would beable to suggest it to someone now. I understand its a long shot but I am hoping someone can at least get me in the ball park. For example, someone may suggest a strain. I may grow it and it may be similar bujt not the same. But based on its lineage etc I may be able to narrow down further. I am not expecting to grow the same plant. But I do hope that if I could get close I could pop seeds for years and eventually get a pheno that similar.

Well you mention it was Kushy. How about Master Kush? It was popular at one time and matches the description you gave.

I've grown master kush and the cuts I had were very piney with a candy berry undertone. Tight nugs but not overly fat leaves on any of them. I would say slightly wider than middle of the road on leaf width.

Giggle.......Got this new one folks are liking Xtsho..

Cookie Driver - Original thin mint cookies X Original 303 Sundae Driver

Bruce's Monkey is doing well also.
Bruce Banner X Gorrila Glue #4 Shorter, less leggy plant that carries the nice big dense GG4 bud's. Everything the GG is but, has a much more calming effect. BIG time popular with the PTSD crowd wanting a heavy hitting buzz without the paranoid feeling that can come from the Glue.

I'm not saying everything out there is bad. But you have to admit that there has been an influx of pollen chuckers entering the seed business with crappy genetics trying to get rich. Same thing with all the "Magic" in a bottle nutrient companies selling watered down salts.

Me, I'm enjoying a bowl of 100% sativa called Oldtimers Haze from ACE seeds. Flowered for 20 weeks but well worth it. Just pollinated an OTH with some male F3 pollen from a line I'm working on called Durbistan. PCK + Durban. I'm going to call it Old Man Durbistan. :bigjoint:

Yeah, but there are different phenos, and leaf width can vary greatly on the same plant. The master kush I grew had some leaves about 4 cm wide. They were the fattest leaves I've ever seen on a pot plant. Of course they were also the first five finger leaves on them.

Not to mention that there are over a dozen different breeders offering their own version of Master Kush. I think original was originally bred in Amsterdam by the White Label Seed Company in the nineties.

Yes thats a big part of the issue as well. As pointed out there is a wide variance in breeders let alone phenos. I saw one pic of a dried master kush bud that looked super similar even though the plant itself didnt look overtly similar. It does have the orange hue.

Also I dont know if this is a thing but the buds often had a very round appearance?! Not spherical but rounder when manicured than most other strains Ive grown.
