Advanced Nutrients a scam? (Haters gonna hate)

When I first joined this forum a LOT of people were saying "A/N is trash, scam, junk, water" etc..

I always go against the grain so of course I went out and purchased 3 gallon jugs of the Advanced Nutrients Micro, Grow & Bloom. I fed my plants start to finish with ONLY these 3 bottles of nutrients (base nutrients) and got an average of 7 ounces per/plant from Gorilla Glue AutoFlowers purchased from Growers Choice Seeds.

Grow "Room" configuration
  • Two Mars Hydro TSW-2000 LED Panels per/4x4' space
  • 5 Gallon Pots loaded with Mother Earth Coco/Perlite 70/30 blend.
  • 4x8x7' Zazzy Grow Tent
I threw away all of my PH products like pens, ups and downs and literally used 2 ounces per/5 gallon bucket of Advanced Nutrients Micro (2 oz), Grow (2 oz) & Bloom (2 oz) in that order, start to finish.

Next time someone says Advanced Nutrients is a scam or overpriced trash just know that they never tried it.

Well basically they are charging you a huge mark up on inexpensive ingredients.

Apart from their base nutes all the other additives (bud candy, big bud etc) is Magnesium sulphate. Which essentially is Epsom salts. Which are like a tenner for 5kg...

But each to their own I guess :)

So, big buds. Nice! And not to be a dick, but looks pretty bunk. Looks really forced and rushed. Barely a trich in sight. Can only imagine the minty fresh flav. It could be grower error or shit genetics. But maybe also the nutes? Got an opinion on this. You seem psyched, so I hate to shit on it. But these are legit questions.

Those look terrible. Seriously man you did not do advanced any favors. Those plants are over crispy and airy as hell. Way to much nitrogen.
They're in week 1 of flush. The Gorilla Glue I've grown from GrowersChoice never seems to get frosty on the leaves but it is smooth smoking and easy to trim which is why I've been continuing to grow it. Critical Purple on the other hand is quite frosty bud and tends to get way more trichomes on the leaves.

Yeah the trichombs definitely are limited on this particular strain from GrowersChoice. The Tangerine Dream & Critical Purple I grew ended up much more frosty. The reason they're looking crispy is because these pics have been taken after 1 week of flushing.

Organic nazi here, of course all of these products work, and of course 'growers' have their preferences. I look at it this way, Chips ahoy is good enough when I don't feel like baking..., If you want top shelf choc chip cookies, you let someone experienced with baking to whip em up from scratch, and as long as wifey actually knows how to bake (important point), NO PREMADE product or mix is ever going to be better tasting and more consumed than those sweet gooey fresh natural cookies. IMHO cannabis and growing methods are exactly the same. Hydro and bottled chems can produce the best weed Big Mike can produce. I like growing cannabis that is the best 'I' can produce. Source your own chems if you want to get of the bottle, way cheaper, and you get to learn more than a mixing chart for success. I still eat Chips Ahoy occasionally though.

I started out growing with Fox Farms Ocean Forest but ended up with 2 separate batches from different sources with bugs ahoy. Aphids etc. Tried Michigan Made Soil and it grew stumpy plants and then finally ran Roots Organics and again, had bugs in the soil. I grow in a very clean basement with perfect climate control and no bugs unless I bring them in from bags of dirty soil. This is why I'm forced to use Coco and DWC because otherwise I end up with bugs. I'm not sure if it's because I'm in Mid Michigan or what but out of all of the different synthetic chelated nutrients Advanced Nutrients has been the most successful for me.

I love the idea of Organic growing but when it comes down to it I end up having to add chemicals to get rid of bugs and end up with more problems than if I just used synthetic nutrients in the first place. Also Soil isn't really reusable like coco. I can wash my coco out in huge totes and rinse/drain a few times and re-use almost forever. I've gone through about 3 grow cycles now with autos and used the same coco mix.

I also do agree and I have thought of that analogy with growing cannabis. I certainly agree that the weed produced from Soil in my past has been far superior to the synthetic coco weed I smoke & grow now. My mom used to grow for several years in Fox Farms Ocean Forest and never had bug problems. I called her up and let her know the issues I was having and she's no longer growing so couldn't really chime in. I guess a couple bags she got back when had bugs infused in them as well. My local grow shop actually quit stocking it due to people coming back bitching about bugs being in it. Water that stuff and enjoy your grow room being infested by little annoying gnats and bugs the next day.

So when you boil it down buying bags of quality organic Soil ends up costing more than just simply reusing coco and adding synthetic liquid nutrients.
