I've grown a few Harvest now and have some experience under my belt but my number one question is...
I see all these Growers taking pictures of stocks that are huge giant stems about 2 in thick I can't seem to get any bigger then 3/4 inch stems at the base of my plant I tried topping techniques and yes they work to widen and thicken the stem but nothing compares to the grows that I have seen on this site anybody with some valuable information I'm starting a new grow and would like to know please

I've seen normal plants produce 1 inch to 3 inch stocks in a normal veg cycle at this point I'm trying 2 shorten the plant with a thicker stock producing bigger colas

Both were germinated in Feb and harvested in oct

Bottom one was in 200 gallons in ground and top was 400 gallon raised bed

Hi Guy,
Genetics is always at play. So you're looking for a shorter stocky plant. Look seriously into manifold training. It takes more time so start earlier. It's just a combination of lst and topping...fairly easy. You'll get some strong stems.

I appreciate it I'll take a look I've been using LST and I've tried a longer veg period but when you're using a back seed from a good line of genetics you're not always entitled to a female plant and a long veg ends up being wasteful if you have a bunch of males.
I grow for plants one wasn't doing so good so I gave up on it and put it outside as a mercy kill to see if anything would happen the other three I only had one turn female the other to had grown balls so there was a lot of wasted time it just so happened the one outside saved the day after 3 weeks of flower wasted I was able to bring her back into a great product but only produced 7 grams from a small plant. In short I don't want to waste a lot of time seeds are hard to come by for a broke-ass like me so buying fem seeds is a hot commodity and a luxury I might not ever see

OK...I understand your situation better. I would estimate...as others have....that with a fast growing strain (ie-not a landrace sativa) you will need about 2 weeks extra time on the front end.

What you need to look into for gender identification is cloning for gender. I never trust pre-flowers and my old eyes have trouble with that. So as soon as a plant is ready for it's first topping, and ready for manifolding...say 5 or 6 nodes. Then top it, root it and into the bloom room. One it shows sex...you then know the sex of it's parent plant. Some people will put an unrooted cutting into flowering...but asking a cutting to grow roots and flower at the same time...seems to be too much for some cuttings. That's why choose to root first.

Stoned and long winded today. Once you've established gender of the cutting...you could reveg and monster crop but never done that.
