Bi-Partisan Senate report calls for sweeping effort to stop Russian trolls on social media platforms.

So with all the sock puppets running around pretending that Russia did not, and has not been systematically attacking every social media site (like Rollitup.org), this is pretty timely report that took 2.5 years for the bi-partisan senate committee that has once again found that indeed Putin is attacking us constantly in the hopes that they can keep Trump our president and continue to create as much chaos as possible for America (and every other democratic nation).

“Russia is waging an information warfare campaign against the U.S. that didn’t start and didn’t end with the 2016 election,” said Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), the committee’s chairman. “Their goal is broader: to sow societal discord and erode public confidence in the machinery of government. By flooding social media with false reports, conspiracy theories, and trolls, and by exploiting existing divisions, Russia is trying to breed distrust of our democratic institutions and our fellow Americans.”
It is worth reading if you are from a democratic nation and are not convinced about Russian trolls affecting our votes. It is real and the less you believe it, the more likely it is because you are reading what the trolls are putting out, especially I am guessing their work on trying to discredit the media.

I am really curious how our trolls here feel when they see how much these ones were found to be paid. Do you guys have wage disclosures? Do you get paid a bonus for hitting websites like this one, but the Facebook/what ever sites are where the real money is?

Anyway, maybe this is why Trump is trying to 'own the news' right now with dropping his pants for Turkey and Russia in Syria. It is not a good look for him in the middle of asking for some illegal election interference from Ukraine.

i've thought for a long time that the penalties for hacking of any kind should be a LOT more severe than they are. like mandatory prison sentences, confiscation of all equipment, and subsequent monitoring of online activity, with any relapses being punished even more severely...
as far as the russians go...i'd bomb their hacking headquarters, and take out contracts on their top hackers that survived...
and that's not me being flippant, i'd really put a stop to this shit, and make it so unattractive that only the bravest, or stupidest, hackers would ever even attempt to interfere in anything as important as another countries elections...
right now, they face NO penalties for their interference...they may be looking at medals from Putin....if i had my way, they'd be hunted, and know it

They are.

But when all the hacking is done from Moscow, you're never going to get anybody arrested, let alone to trial, let alone convicted.

There are presently 20 or more indictments against Russians specifically for that as we speak. They will never be served of course because Russia doesn't extradite anybody for any reason.

Nobody gives a damn what's on your computer. And believe me, if they want into it, they WILL get into it and there's nothing you can do about it.

Fact of the matter is that Russians actually write the vast majority of the code used in every operating system on earth. It's done very much the same way that games are: back doors are installed to allow them access later on or for cheats to be used at will without detection.

The only way to assure you never ever get hacked is to never ever hook the internet up to your computer.

Everybody gets hacked. Citibank, the United States Army, everybody.

Believe me, you have ZERO chance of stopping anything. The saving grace you have is that you're not important, nobody gives a shit, so nobody cares. That covers about 99.9% of all computers on the internet though including me, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

Live in a fantasy world of make believe and wishful thinking all you want. What I stated is absolute fact. If you get targeted, you WILL be hacked. Period.
So Russia won. No alternitives, no point in advancing technology. Thanks.

On that end, yes. They have won. It's proven each and every day. Here's just a few of the folks that have been hacked within the last 3 years:
  • Citibank
  • Equifax
  • The United States Army
  • The United States Airforce
  • IBM
  • Microsoft
  • Goldman Sachs
Now, if those guys get hit, what the flying fuck makes you think you can stop it? Or anybody for that matter?

The sad news is: AMERICANS ARE STUPID.

We just are. At large. We're number 31st in the world in education BEHIND people like:
  • The Czech Republic
  • Vietnam
  • Slovenia
  • China
  • Taiwan
  • Estonia
and that's just naming a few.

When you have to rely on the rest of the world for all of your higher purpose programming and then you hire patent idiot Americans to actually implement it and run it, you are DOOMED to failure.

I dont disagree with anything you said, you are spot on. And I am not that worried about stopping it, I would just like to make people pay a price however small it is.

I really don't buy the "America is stupid" thing. We track our total populations education far better than most other countries and outside I really don't trust the reporting of the countries that have near or more people than our population.

So I would say we are still pumping out far more educated people as a whole than anywhere else in the world, and it will only get better.

And as far as the hacking stuff, if our government decided one day to let the full force of our society to retaliate against these countries attacking us I do not question that we would be able to hold our own. Right now we are just taking shot after shot and not really doing anything about it.

That attitude is in large part what keeps Americans stupid.
Man you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today eh.

I re-read what I wrote and stand by it. With our higher population and higher education system I would imagine we are among the highest number of educated individuals of any country.

I understand what he is saying, because I've been saying the same thing since Nixon was reelected.

College education is a good indicator, although I've read that only 20 percent of people attend college. What really explains it is that almost half of all people have an IQ that is below 100. That explains a lot!

i think we have a better over all education level than a lot of other countries, but i think we're falling behind in hard sciences, engineering, physics, astronomy, the things that really count in a technological society.
we have way too big a focus on middle level management, and not nearly enough on leadership and treating workers well....mid level management are bloated ticks that suck the life out of most businesses, and our education system excels at producing them.
