Drain to waste experiments. So far liking DTW but not sure about Coco so gonna try rockwool next run. Even at this early stage the rockwool out performs the coco - no transplant shock at all they just took off from the moment the cuts rooted.

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading this thread!
I'm a total Noob, without even a grow under my belt. I've been researching hydro styles, and doing my homework. Won't be legal to grow here for a few more months.
If you don't mind me running this by you...
There will be a 5 plant limit, so my thought is two in Veg, and two Flower, and one to spare if I ever find a mother I would want to keep. Would be starting from seed, at least to start. I would like to LST in Veg, and Scrog in Flower, (24 x 24 inches, 60 x 60 cm each plant) and I am not in a hurry, as this would just be for personal use.
I think that individual trays (5 gal bus tubs 21.5 x 15.75 x 5 inches) (546 x 400 x 127 mm) with individual rez's (10 gallon) would make the most sense. This would allow for different nutes for different strains if needed and if there was a root issue, the nasties wouldn't spread to the other plants. That would mean 4 of everything, but the volume of water that you would be dealing with would be small, as well as the pumps, and fairly manageable.
So what I'm getting at is...Is individual Ebb and Flow tables a thing? I was originally looking at individual DWC buckets with extra control buckets because of the Scrog, but I like the idea of the Ebb and Flow much better.
I addressed this to KLX, cause he obviously has his E & F shit down pat, but everyone's input is more that welcome. Just a greenhorn, trying to learn from those who have already blazed the trail!

G'day mate and welcome.
Your plan sounds fine to me with the following caveats.
Generally, the bigger rez the better for a number of reasons but mostly because you can go longer between dumps. With a 10 gallon rez I would dump and refill every week or max 10 days.
If you run sterile res and use H202 diligently you wont have root issues and for small personal grows I don't think it's worth the extra work to mix up separate nutes every week for different rezes but if you are happy to do the work there is no harm in it.
You should be able to find cheaper alternatives to flood trays such as cement mixing tubs etc to save some money on the set up as you only need a tray big enough for 1 pot. And you only need cheap pumps as well as the flood times are not critical it's the frequency that is important.
Otherwise just go for it and as you complete grows you will see which areas of your op needs tweaking.
Most importantly, don't skimp on exhaust fans and lights!

The “trays” I am thinking of using are what a bus boy clears the table of dishes with. If I filled it to 3 inches (76 mm) it would have 4.4 gallons (16.65 l) in it. Side walls are either 5 or 7 inches (127 or 177 mm) If I used a 15 gallon (57 l) reservoir, I could use a 3:1 ratio. Is that a decent size/ratio?
I’m planning on running beneficial bacteria and doing only a 70% water/nutes change at a time, similar to water changes in a fish tank.

DIY LED they way to go for us small growers for sure. Good idea with the trays. Seems to me like you got your plans in order man. All sounds good to me although you are gonna have to stay on top of your rezes with bennies!

I'm trying to hammer out the details of my setup in my head, and keep coming up with questions. Back in post #7 you show us flowering out your mothers, it looks like they are in fabric pots. Is that right?
The reason I ask is that I would like to run with as little medium as possible, but will be vegging just two plants out to a 24 x 24 inches, 60 x 60 cm, scrog size. So do I need to have something larger than the 2 inch net cups that you are running your no medium SOG in? I was thinking 6 inch net pots with hydroton, but then I thought of just using one gallon fabric pots and just setting them on the bottom of the tray. If the tray is covered the roots should be able to grow out of the fabric and spread out. (may even put a synthetic batting like they use in quilting on the bottom of the tray too) [which may be totally unnecessary with the top canopy being supported with the scrog trellis, but I don't think it can hurt]

They are floraflex caps and they make top feeding with 4mm lines easy and keeps algae at bay by blocking the light from the top of the blocks.
Yeah haven't got around to making a new thread as been busy and still experimenting.
Yep you are on the right track. Keep in mind you will need to moves the plants from veg to flower so having identical setups would help as you could just move the whole tray, plant and all. That way you only need a pot big enough to support the trunk. A 2 gallon pot with clay would work and yes just let the roots spread over the base of the tray. I prefer plastic pots to fabric but it's a personal choice. Try both and see which works best for you.
No worries, planning is good then u can just execute it when you are ready.

In my whole life? Thats hard to answer we didnt used to know the name of the strains we were growing back in the day, we just got seeds or clones from someone and it was either called filth or skunk or bush or hydro or whatever. Then we started getting
Hi mate, just for seedlings and clones so doesnt matter to me, only need to run them about 25 watts each but a little less or a little more is fine.
Hard to say cos the faster flowering strains usually yield less. Had an iced grapefruit pheno that was 7 weeks done and also some of Bog's bubble gum crosses are fast but if you want huge yields then you looking at critical mass crosses and stuff like that but mostly they go 9 weeks.
