You can purge the BHO without having to add ethanol. It just takes a while.

I figured as soon as the wax was dilute, the butane would just come right off, immediately? I am considering cold ethanol extractions as option as well. I keep getting an advertisement on my FB feed for a table top ethanol extractor with distillation and filtration under vacuum, for pretty cheap. Extractcraft...I think that is the name. Pretty easy to put together yourself actually....

You’d still need to purge the BHO by hand, which will take a little bit of time and effort.
What I did when I was blasting with a tube into a silicone mat, I would have the mat sitting in a hot water bath, so when I blast the BHO the hot water helps evaporate the butane. I’d hand purge the solution with a metal dabber or a similar metal tool to help release the trapped pockets in it. I’d usually purge in the double boiler until there’s no bubbles left.
Be careful with BHO though, no matter the grade there’s an additive for the odor in butane. You can purge the butane out completely, but you can’t purge the additive used for the butane smell, so when you’re blasting I’d use the least amount of butane possible. Also makes purging a lot easier too.

Using ethanol will be even harder to purge than butane and will come with some amount of water. Better to just stick with butane.

If you wanna get into BHO you will want to grab a vacuum chamber with a temperature controlled heat mat. A single stage vacuum pump is all you need (dual stage is overkill) and harbor freight has them cheap.
If you wanna purge the butane without a vacuum then you want to spread the concentrate REALLY thin on parchment paper and let nature take it's course over time. Refrigerating or freezing the parchment will make the concentrate come right off.
Also another tip, freeze your packed tubes and cans of butane before you extract, this will help lockup some of the fats, waxes and lipids. I use a deep freezer and toss a bunch of packed tubes in there, after a day of freezing I add dry ice for about 12 hours. I cut some foam board insulation to make a section that fits the tubes, butane and the dry ice in a smaller section. This gets the tubes down really cold, colder than my IR thermometer can read.
If you do wanna play with ethanol, look into winterization. You dissolve the BHO in ethanol and put in the freezer. It will make a "snow globe" effect where fats, waxes and lipids will solidify and can be filtered out. I use a vacuum pump, erlenmeyer flask, buchner funnel (frozen) and one micron watts filter discs. This winterization will make for super smooth product that is more pure THC but a lot of the terpenes will wanna drop out. I like to use it on stuff that doesn't have an awesome flavor.

Also there are plenty of brands of butane that have been tested to have no mercaptan additions (funky smell) and very low "mystery oil" content. Theres a guy that tested a lot of them and made a list, you can find it if you search. I have used many brands but my favorite is whip it premium. Colibri, Vector, Newport and many others work well. Its odd but sometimes a 5x will test cleaner than a 7x from the same brand. It's always good to test a can or two from a batch before buying a master case.
