Help. How late can STS be sprayed on AF plants

So I have some auto flower plants that are budded, with the very first pistols just starting to orange. (60 days)(slow outdoor plants)

Is it too late for me to start spraying Silver thiosulfate solution (STS)???

Can I still change sex on say... a bottom less mature branch?
Or should I wait for the next round of plants?

You want to spray before you flip or in your case with auto's before they start flowering. I've tried on early flowering plants and the results were not good. I would wait for the next round of plants. I also like to spray entire small plants rather than just a branch but you can spray just one branch. I prefer spraying entire plants so that when the pollen sacs start forming I can move the plant away without worrying about stray pollen in my flower tent.

Watching a percentage of $10 a pop seedlings getting offed in the jungle of a greenhouse. Is not a fun way to spend money.

I am quite positive not a single regular non feminized CBD autoflower exists at any seed vendor globally.

Pretty much only Euro breeders are creating AF's with less than 1% THC.

IMO massive opportunity being missed by old school US breeders.

At $30 gram for CBD, I am positive millions would love to grow compact simple CBD autoflowers.

CBD is already eclipsing THC sales.

The photo period CBD hemp I have in my greenhouse is outrageously huge and unruly. Not appropriate for the medical or home grower. Will not grow again. Only like compact AF plants like the plethora of THC varieties available.

I made a cross of Medical Marijuana Genetics Candida (CD1) + Ruderalis. The Candida is supposedly less than 1% THC and up to 20% CBD. Ruderalis is used for creating auto flowering strains. I haven't grown any out yet.

No luck finding ruderalis seed. It be nice to find some regular low THC Rudalis seed. Heck any CBD male autoflower for that matter.

I love Autoflowers. Allow me to hedge with two smaller autoflower crops a season than risk on one larger photoperiod crop.

My marine PNW can be brutal with early fall, loaded with powdery mildew, and mold.

Quick question: I liberally sprayed STS on the bud sites of a female the day I flipped to 12/12, then hit it again a week later. Now 4 weeks into 12/12 and I definitely have anthers, but I don't see any full, male flowers with sepals. Are these naked anthers going to produce pollen? Should I expect to see "balls" eventually?

So far only Euro breeders are offering CBD Autoflowers with less than 1% THC. (I have grown pretty much all of them.)

No US breeders with with CBD only autos. Only an endless selection of CBD/THC crosses. Only photoperiod hemp offerings from Colorado, and a few $20 a seed offerings from Oregon. (All photoperiod hemp.)

$10 Euro seeds are even too costly considering auto's are small and generally less than 15% CBD. The cost per gram of extract is high.

I have 2 plants that reversed like this. Naked anthers. They produced very little pollen and didn't split open easily. They were seed plants. I'm going to try reversing their clones to test a theory of mine. See if they look different reversed or dump pollen instead of fiddling with unopened nanners/anthers.

I see this was early on in the month. How did this turn out for you? Did they split open?Did they produce any viable pollen?

Thanx for jumping in, CoB. This had gone so stale without an answer I'd forgotten about it.

Yes, 1-2 weeks after the photo was taken I turned on a small fan in the tent, flicked the STS treated bud, and pollen filled the tent. I'll have an endless supply of feminized F1 hybrids and F2 Durban Poisons, and had enough pollen to freeze 4 tubes for future use.

The pollen production from the naked anthers was pretty light, but at least it worked. Not sure what precipitates them to form instead of being enclosed in sepals, but I assme it's due to STS concentration or application frequency. To much, or too little of one or the other.

Mine were all fully mature clones, so probably negates your hypothesis. I did see a thread a while back -- can't find it again, of course -- where the OP was concerned that the concentration of the STS might be too high causing the naked anthers. Can't validate, but I still suspect concentration or application are the culprits.

Here was my most recent reversal scenario. Actually my first using STS.I always used CS when I was doing reversals in the past.

I had 4 plants to reverse two of the same strain- strain A.And 1 each of different strains- strains B & C.

I used a forum member's named Schwaggy P's STS making process and the ratio he outlined in his thread post on it.

The 2 plants of strain A were both sexually immature seed plants in 1 gal fabric pots they hadn't shown pre flower stigma before flipping to flower. Strains B & C were both mature clones in solo cups.
At first application the day of flip, all the plants were sprayed completely. 7-10 days later, all plants were spritzed at the nodes only.

All plants reversed with strain A being the last to fully reverse. The strains B & C solo cup clones only got 2 sprays while strain A got 3. They still had stigma popping out,even some of the reversed sites still had stigma.

Strains B&C both had male flowers with the anthers incased in the sepals. They also opened or burst smoke plumes when disturbed.Easy peasy pollen collection and cleaning from both.
They each also produced much more pollen than the bigger strain A plants put together.

Strain A. Naked anthers,much less pollen in the anthers compared to strains B & C. It also had to be negotiated out of the anthers. I did this by sticking a pin in it and tapping it on my collection glass. This is after collecting as many as I could that were mature and running them thru a mesh strainer to try and get some plant matter separated from the pollen.

I know some cultivars just won't give it up so to speak. I also know some give up sterile pollen. I haven't tested the pollen viability yet,but will do so soon,that is before I run them again to test. Lol,makes sense and could save me a lot of time and testing for naught.

As you,I read where ratios and concentrations can determine the outcome as well.I'll have to stick with the ratio I've used to gather a baseline before tinkering with those variables.

I enjoy the convo. I/We need all the data points one can get.
