99 problems but she ain’t one

Hello people as you can probably tell I’m new here, but not to self medicating. Have been loving this plant for many of years and now it’s time to finally grow my own.
So the mrs has given me the green light to set something up (happy days). Obviously comes with conditions. Like she don’t wanna be able to smell it, hear it as it will be in the bedroom and she wants it in a cupboard. Now the problem I have with this is the cupboard door opening is only 60cm wide but inside the cupboard it goes to 80cm from wall to wall. I want to be able to use as much space as possible. So I suppose the question/s are:
1. Do I buy a 60x60 grow tent that will just about fit or.
2. Do I buy a 80x80 tent and try and build it in the cupboard.
Or if anyone got better suggestions would love to hear them?

If its going to be in your bedroom she will hear it. No two ways about it.
The smell is easy dealt with but fans make noise. I have a practically silent extraction fan but my circulation fans make noise and that cant be avoided.

Cant you put it somewhere else? Kitchen unit maybe where noise isn't suspicious?

As far as space goes, 60cm tents are typically very short and that makes it difficult to utilise.
Bigger tents require bigger lights and thus bigger rates of air exchange and circulation and thus noise.

You need to be able to remove the heat from the tent and cupboard which is another reason why your bedroom is not ideal unless your going to cut holes through walls or ceilings/floors?

The only other place is the loft, I have thought about that but it’s not easily accessible. I’ve explained to the mrs that it won’t be completely silent as the fans will be on.
The plan is to use a quantum board for lighting, oversizing the extraction and use a fan speed controller to get temps right. Hopefully the fans won’t need to be on full whack so shouldn’t be to noisey.
Extracting the warm air during the day shouldn’t be a problem as the cupboard door can be left open. Then of a night time I’m thinking about having a thick curtain nailed to the top, inside the door frame with holes cut out for venting.
I know 60x60 tents ain’t massive in height but with the quantum board and lst could it possibly work?

Yeah there is no way you will manage to meet her restrictions. Probably best to keep buying weed unless you wanna make waves.
It’s getting stupid with weights, 1.6g maybe 1.7g for a hard earned, 20 of the queens head. I’m always causing waves one way or another. Kinda thinking it will be worth putting up with the head aches

With a small space consider pc fans and voltage adjustable power packs for air circulation. That's as quiet as you can get with fans and you can turn them up or down depending on what suits you.
It will depend what Quantum board you get, I run multiple 260w kits, they need to be 18" above canopy when flowering at full whack.
The QB100 has less diodes and can be closer than the 135w kit.

I have one of these on a variac. Its less noise than a pc fan or anything else in my room, I have to check its on sometimes.
Never had a fan this quiet in my life and wish I had discovered them years ago before I piled many a quid into silenced fans which were 50db.

23db..
I have the 6" as well.

Be careful which speed controller you get, I have a manual variac and a digital variac which has temp sensor, the latter only allows minimum 55% speed. Which for me is not enough reduction in winter and im running much bigger spaces and wattage than you.
I prefer the manual one although it doesn't offer as much temp stability.

If you can get it in there get the 80cm x 80cm. Black orchid if you can get one, they make mint tents but shite fans.
Stick to your minimum 2x2 footprint plant and light wise but have more head room.

Some 20 something years ago a friend had a small grow and didn't want his parents to know, short story long, he grew in a closet with t5s ..? But heat became a problem cause of little vents, his solution was copper pipes filled with water and one end in front of a 12v computer as a coil and the other end outside of the closet with another 12v fan on it in a coil.. heat exchange is natural no pumps needed, it did work for his small compact grow not sure it that can help any, maybe adapt something from that that could work for you.

I’ve found a black orchid 60x60x200 tent at a squeeze that would fit. If I was to go bigger then I’d have to build the tent in the cupboard an I can see that will be a right ball ache.
With this 60x60x200 I’d have plenty of height for fan and filter plus the light.
So the next question is do I go for the 260 quantum or do I go for a smaller one?

Nice, they are very nice tents.

No a 260w QB is for a 2x4ft (120x60cm) space. A 135w will cover 2x2. By cover im not talking about bare minimum either.

Where are you buying it from? DIYledUK?

Glad to hear the black orchid tents are half decent it’s the only brand that does the size I need.
Oh really the 135w boards are that good then. Yea diyleduk is more than likely where I’ll buy the light.
Ive noticed that diyleduk has stopped making the quantum boards. Do you think the scope 220 would be any good?

Yeah his lights are good. Same Samsung diodes and he doesn't skimp on the heat sink.
I think he was having too much of a hard time maintaining stock with the quantum boards, HLG been a bit slack at restocking.

220 would be overkill but it dims to 90w so its not a problem.
The scope 150 would be great.
Only issue is its 61cm as is the 220. But your tent would fit it in, would be touching walls.
Because your tents high your light wont be near top bars so it should fit ok.

@diyled you on holiday chief or still popping your head in?
Any thoughts on the above?

Thank you for the help, normally I would of rushed out to buy all this without thinking about things and end up kicking myself.
Ah that’s a shame about the quantum boards they look really impressive.
I think I’ll end up getting the scope, like you said it will just fit and it’s dimmable. Maybe the mrs will let me have a bigger space in time.....
