Shoot me an email, dude. If you want to try out LED, I'll hook you up.
I would love to talk with you about that perm! I almost hit you up when you posted about looking for team members. I haven't posted much about it just yet but I'm about to move to Oregon. Once I'm settled in and am ready to build my new room I'd love to set it up with LED bars like we were talking about the other day.

Never had white LEDs hurt plants and try to kill them.

LED manufacturers were using red diodes with white 6 and more years ago (Apache, Area 51).
That's right! And Apache Tech STILL uses the same light design as they did all those years ago. They have a light that works, is UL listed and was used by NASA. People will say they lag behind the current trends....That's what I thought, too...at first....But now I see them as a great and consistent design that doesn't need to change. Honestly, though, I can't imagine what their current customer base is!

Area 51 was like a Poor Man's Apache Tech. I bought one of the lights....and it still works great....but the company was horrible and now is looooooong gone. At least Apache Tech has remained a professional business and not some fly-by-night thing that popped up for a minute and then disappeared.

Dude, go one state to the south. Millions of room. Unbelievable right now.
I've got a job I'm moving for :). It should be fun.

I was also just noticing that there seems to be a couple of hours worth of posts missing from this thread. Bigperm even managed to quote a post that no longer seems to exist. I really find that strange considering that I wasn't being inflammatory in any way or breaking any TOS. While all the non-stop trolling that happens here is allowed to go on. That's really pretty sad. I don't know who deleted the posts, but I would really love to know WHY.

Yep. just like my 6 year old Advanced Diamond Series. Thing is the Cree XLM chips are still running but I've replace halve the Epi diodes before I shit canned it. And what was really shitty is I paid $25 for a mixed spectrum bag of 200 diodes after paying $600 for the light.

I need to do a full grow with my old viparspectra par450 lol.
I know rbg's really do give big ass leaves. Mine are never that big, But still grow great dense nugs.

anyone running Sammy's got hand sized fans? Pictures?
These are Nichias - not Sammies - but plenty of hand-sized leaves. And none of those puny Trump-sized hands, either! :P

Yeah, I've posted these before, but you asked. I've been doing a bit of reading on Red:Far Red ratios and discovered one of the reasons the Emerson Effect is so . . . er, effective, is that the shade-avoidance response in plants causes them to grow thinner, larger leaves (in addition to longer stems and petioles) that can capture more light.

So the secret to large fan leaves may be as simple as more red and far red. Or at least their ratios. The above LEDs are a mix of 2700K CRI90 and CRI95 LEDs which have more red and far red than typical Sammies in 3000K CRI80.

The one thing about the RGB set-up @hybridway2 is using is they do have a high proportion of red with a couple of far reds thrown into the mix. Something to think about.

I remember an old saying by former Chinese Leader Deng Xiaoping who opened the country up to economic reforms in the late 80s, early 90s: "It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice."

Which simply means, a good spectrum is a good spectrum - whether it is RGB or phosphor coated. My own opinion, of course.

One in my last crop had big fans for a plant that was only 3 ft tall. Bigger than hand size and my hands are pretty huge. 200 - 230 watts into two QB288 v2.

I did. I have someone that is going to do a comparison grow with it, actually.
oh cool. I didn't know about them until after I picked up a new Philips bulb otherwise I would've bought one to give it a try. Will be a few years before I need a new one so I doubt I'll be trying it out so will be cool to see someone compare it.

That doesnt mean you know what youre talking about. You're renowned for lockout and feeding problems and you know that right? right? please answer that.

says it all. maybe you're more suited to soil than hydro. I can run an led coco garden for 10 days without even being there and see no problems. i am not alone either! im not a great grower, im lazy and i make mistakes sometimes but i'll blame myself, fix it and move on.

This place is unsurprisingly and rightly filled with new led growers. if i was a newb looking for advice and saw all your lighting i'd probs ask you also.
I understand you're legit trying to help people, unlike @OneHitDone, and thats great, thats what forums are for.

years ago, when i started using led I signed up to uk420 and was told in no uncertain terms by mods and whoever else was involved in their ignorant circle jerk, that they are too weak, "wont grow bud", "throw them away" blah blah blah...yadda yadda yadda...i proved them all wrong and left, guess which lighting theyre all using now? They can suck my nut. you're kinda doing the same...all these newbs you keep preaching led deficiency to, will, i hope, eventually realise you're wrong.

No they're not, you're making that up. show me one big cultivator struggling under led. i'll wait.

@OneHitDone you're so predictable. i can almost hear your brain seize up before hitting google images to find an educated response, and you didn't let me down - classy. its no wonder only one or two ignorants here back you...and youve been here years! ouch.
If you ever want to see a bunch of circle jerking communist cunts, go on UK420.

Biggest bunch of asshats on the Internet.

For the same reason a big plant is. High capacity for resource collection and high potential for flower production. I assume you know about photosynthesis so i'm not going to go much deeper.
Never been a big "fan" (forgive the pun) of keeping massive fans.

I can get mine to produce palm sized fans within 2 weeks from seed.

Then I take them off, suoercrop and move on from there.

I'm getting over 8oz a plant. Which I never did before I defol'd.

Of you like big leaves mate, good for you. I prefer buds.
