@Oldschooldude Thank, I am glad you like this journal. Some Sativas take a long time to flower and mature and that puts off many growers. However they offer a greater diversity of terp profiles and effects!!
Impressive! I've never grown the Mazar but I have grown a cultivar that comes from the Balkh Province. How was the Mazar?
Yes many landraces thrive in a pretty poor soil so it is easy to burn them.

@JohnDee Yes the plants are over 4'. The tallest one reaches 4'5 / 138cm
I topped and pinched them many time tho I did not mainline them as I don't want them to take up too much horizontal space. It's incredible how much biomass these plants produce in only 2 and a half months... Now the stretch is 100% over so they are under control. I like how you trained your Kali Mist, she looks beautiful :weed:

@Brandon137 Hi Brandon! Welcome and thank you for following this grow. (:

What's up growers!

Here are the latest pictures of the Rasol Landrace plants.
At day 82 into their flowering cycle, the buds are starting to bulk up a bit, though they are very wispy.

The smell is not very pungent but it is delicious! I've got 2 different phenos: One with a fruity/minty smell and one with a hashy/minty smell (Which reminds me of the Moroccan Beldia).

Most seeds on the branches I've pollinated are already mature.:p I noticed that when making seeds with pure Sativas/NLDs, the seeds are usually mature before the plants are ripe. Which is the complete opposite of most modern hybrids and Indicas/BLDs.

I love the pattern on these seeds...

Peace out:weed:

What is up Rollitupers!

Little update at day 96.
The plants have fattened up a bit though the buds still have a fluffy/wispy aspect.

However the smell is now pretty strong and absolutely delicious. It's an interesting mix of mint/eucalyptus and Cherry/grape. Very unusual combination...

The stigmas are quickly turning brown now and it seems as if they will be ready for the chop in about 10 days.

After culling all the weak plants and all the herms, I do not have enough plants do do a proper open pollination. However, after I told my indian buddy, he sent me much more beans :-)
These come from another hash farmer but from Rasol also.

I also learned that hash farmers have found a way to extend the growing season over the years by growing plants with different flowering times. In the Himalayan village of Rasol for example, villagers can harvest the first plants at the end of September while the last ones are generally ripe in Mid November. The different flowering times come with different tastes and effects. :leaf:

The ones I have been growing are the slow-flowering ones (100 to 110 days).

Without further ado, here are the pics:

Here is a Red-stem pheno:

Cheers guys;-)

Hi Al,
Wild looking plant. Hope she has a nice high. I'm just finishing a run and soon as I can, I'll get the Thai/Malawi Golden Tigers into bloom. I have two Malawi ohenos and one Thai. I've kept them low through training.
Later,
JD

Hey there John!
That Thai/Malawi will probably have a crazy vigor and I bet the high will be somewhat psychedelic :fire:
I'm looking forward to seeing your next grow journal!

Cheers,

Al

Good Morning Al,
So you're an early riser too. I believe that I mentioned I've manifold trained them. Worried about height so I wanted to get control...but I'm still a little worried that I might get overgrown anyway. They are about 1 1/2' now.

This shot is the Malawi pheno. The Thai has smaller thinner and more leaves. I think I can squeeze them into the bloom room soon...
Later,
JD

PS Sure hope you're right about being pcychedelic...that is the goal after all...lol

Thanks for the journal you are writing. I have never grown any sativa until now so it gives me some idea where i am at in flowering. I have a swazi gold and i had to prune early. Now i am supercropping and attaching it to a large tomatoe cage. Again thanks for the info.

@JohnDee Hello John!

From what I've heard, the Malawi doesn't stretch too much and is relatively fast-flowering for A pure Sativa/NLD.
I like the structure of your Malawi plant! Well done. Topping off many times during the flowering stretch will help limit the final size.
I made a video on how to grow crazy Sativas indoors .

@Nrk.cdn Thank you for your support. I am supper happy that you find this grow journal useful! Pure Sativas are definitely manageable indoors with the right methods.

Hey guys!

Sorry I've been very busy working on other strains at the same time. I have also started another run with more Rasol seeds that my buddy gave me. I really like that strain so I wanted to preserve it by doing a seed increase while breeding out the herm trait at the same time.

I Chopped the Rasol plants at day 106.

Here is what the buds look like:

Rasol Bud Red Stem Pheno.jpg
Rasol Bud.jpg
The buds are very wispy but the final smell is incredible. It is still herbal but also fruity and a bit spicy. The fruity smell leans towards grape/red currant.

And the effect was wow.. Very pleasant. It is joyful and uplifting but also relaxing at the same time. It makes your whole body feel relaxed, very good for cramps and joint pains.

I have not lab tested it yet but I am sure there is some CBD in it. I'll get it tested soon.

Have an awesome day guys!

Good morning Aladdin,
Thanks for the tips on Malawi. mine being a phenotype of the Golden Tiger (ThatxMalawi) perhaps it will be stretchier then a Malawi. Hope not...but I'm prepared.

Watched your video. Well done and useful. I can dial down my red light a bit...but right now I have a mixed garden. Soon it will be all sativa. Most of the other tips I already knew. Been growing sats a long time.

So your business will be to breed and sell landrace sativas? Very cool and much respect. I promise I will buy some seeds from you. That will be my contribution. 8-)

Hi OSD...looks like you need a little dual time regarding quotes.

Quick and dirty...if you hit reply, the entire post is quoted. You can then just delete what you do not want.

Another way to do it...highlight the desired text (left button held down and drag) Usually a reply tab will appear out the bottom. Click there and just the highlighted text is quoted.
Cheers,

@JohnDee Good morning John,

The Thai should be stretchier that the Malawi but maybe the "moderate stretch" genes of the Malawi are dominant. Hopefuly.
Yeah, growing Sativas alongside some Indica can be tricky since Indincas like shorter dark periods (11 to 11.30 hours of darkness per day).

I am very happy you found that video useful.

Thanks a mil for the support John! I also work with Indica Landraces but most landraces are Sativa/NLD. The goal is to preserve these endangered landaces by doing open pollinations while using a high number of plants and to reduce the number of weak plants, lower the herm rate and improve germ rates at the same time.
I'll also come up with some True F1 hybrids in the future (Made with Landraces) but as you know, true breeding takes a long time...
Thanks again John Dee (:

@Oldschooldude Hello old school fella! Thank you for the compliment. I wish it were possible to smell these buds through the screen as that smell is highly unusual.

Take care,

Al

Defenitely a worthy goal. I'm sure there are obscure landrace plants that haven't been discovered or revealed. Sounds fun. Travel with a goal.

I have a couple things going...but no crosses at the moment. I have one unsexed regular Golden Tiger...but the clone of it under 12/12 is looking female. So I planted more seeds. Trying to find a male to produce more GT seeds...but I would also cross it with my Kali Mist. Those offspring could be interesting.

I have one GT plant that resembles the Malawi more...but it's half as tall as my other one. My concern is that manifold training stunted it. But it's bushy and healthy. Would be way cool if I found a "short" pheno. Picture isn't great but I just hooked up drip lines yesterday so I can't move it for a better picture. Had toelevate it on a upside down pot...to keep canopy even.
Later,
JD

@JohnDee Hello Mister Dee. That plant is looking very bushy and short. It is also healthy and doesn't seem to be lacking vigor at all. That would be very interesting if you could stabilize a short/bushy line of GT.

If you outcross it as it is without stabilizing, the polyhibrid would not be genetically stable. However, I'm sure you'd find some very interesting phenos among the offspring... ;)

Hi Al,
Yes it does look healthy. Finally I got some stretch out of it but still it's quite short. I only have 1 Malawi pheno so I can't compare. Others that have grown this out say I was just being impatient. But even with the stretch (maybe only 30%( it's still a nice sized bush. I pulled some`cuttings off it to save for experimenting. Still waiting to see if I will have any GT males. The Malawi pheno and the Thai's were feminized seeds. (shipping mistake) ...but I have more reg seeds.

When growing pure Sativas, male plants often reveal their sex after the females.. It is the opposite of Indicas and Hybrids. So hopefully you'll get some nice males! (:

Useful info Al. Everything seems to take longer with these sats...but I'm practicing my patience. One of my new seedlings is way taller then the others. Keeping my eye on that one...lol.

Hey Al,
Hope you survived the summer, I did OK till recently when it got a little warm. Luckily I had 4 eight weekers to harvest and I shut off one light...leaving my 3 Golden Tigers which are getting close now.

I think I have three different phenos. One very Thai, one very Malawi and one looking to be maybe 60/40 Thai/Malawi.

The shortest Malawi pheno developed some pretty decent colas...especially considering it's a 100% sativa. I'm approaching 12 weeks but still has too many clear trichomes. Isn't real frosty but looks good under magnification.

The tallest one has more airy buds but lots of them. The middle one which is the most Thai has good bud development but more isolated individual budlets. Would make a good Thai stick.

In the picture of the tall plant...off to the left is the most Thai one. The close-up bud is from the mp...the one on the left hanging down.
