How many trays?

how Many trays would you put in a 20x20 room?
Will be growing in coco.
I would assume a 4x8 tray would be what I should go for?

16kW of HPS should you go that route and probably about 8 tons of AC not counting normal building heat loads. Should be a good 35 pound room.
How many plants do you think could fit on the trays/ room?
Right now I have a 10x10 with 64 plants in there. 16 plants in each 5x5 area. They are in 3 gal fabric pots.
I flipped to flowr about 7 weeks from seed/ clone. I would like to get about 1.5-2oz dry weight per plant.
I was kinda hoping to get more if I went the coco route

Maybe like 12 - 15. Gonna have to veg them a little, thats strain dependent.

Just take the anticipated grams per light, lets say 1000, and divide it by the grams you want per plant, (1000 / 70 = 14.28 plants)

This assumes the strain is a good yielder and can pull two pounds a light.

I personally liked the no veg sog, but you have to have a strain that will stretch after flip and makes nice colas. Then you prune off the bottoms at day 20 of 12/12 and just harvest 48 colas, fast trimming, big nugs. I was running Shiva and she would end up about 40 - 44 inches tall and have big 3/4 ounce colas. She was good for a little over two pounds a light. I ran them in a 7x7 grid, minus one for the tray fittings so 48 per light. I used 6 inch square pots. I had 6 4x8 trays and I loaded two of them every 20 days. That strain actually finished in 60 days so it was perfect. I would pay 1000 bucks for a pack of those seeds. Shit was pure indica, one hitter. Smoked it for 7 years and never built a tolerance, nobody did.

You just made me want some lol

So I assume if it werent for plant count you would still be running your rooms like this? Did you find any huge difference in environmental control compared to now?

Obv SOG requires huge numbers and make it very hard to stay within legal limits unless you have a huge count.

How big were you taking clones? How y’all were they before you flip?

I would like to run a sog since I have no plant count. That would be badass to run 90 per table. Omg. That would be a shit ton to trim lol

Yes I would still be running this if it wasn't for the plant count. Same environment setup, CO2 generator, mini split.

I took 6 inch clones and rooted them for the 20 days in rapid rooters. They were about 8 inches tall and had about 18" long roots hanging off the bottom of the rapid rooter so they were actually trying to veg in the rooting tray. I used 2x4 tray with a dome and set the inserts from rapid rooter trays in there on a heat mat and set it to flood one inch deep once a day. I didn't have to mess with them while they rooted. All I had in veg were 5 mothers and the clones. I potted them in hydroton.

They trimmed FAST because it was just big tops, no other bullshit to trim. My buddy, my mom and myself would harvest and trim all 8 - 9 pounds in one night, one of us would empty the tray and reservoir and start it refilling off RO then it could be loaded with clones the next day. We would leave the trimmed colas on the stems and hang them on wires to dry.

In the next 1-1.5 years I would like to be able to have a 40x40 shop.
Have de hps lights and checkerboard with led.
Add some co2
2- 20x20 flower rooms. One going during the day and 1 night.
Have a veg/ mom/ prop room (unsure the size)
And then like a work room for supplies and whatnot.
How many mother plants did you have?

I would checkerboard with CMH if anything. My building that I am putting on my mountain property will have 14 foot walls so I can hang the lights high. I will either run all DE HPS or mix it with 1kW CMH.

I had 5 mother plants that I took my 200 clones off of every 20 days. I built my reservoirs out of 2x12 lumber, lag bolted to make a 4 x 16 foot box that I lined with pond liner. Put angle iron cross braces to set the trays on and it was very low profile and high capacity. I ran the nutes with only top off for the whole cycle.

Did you ever have issues with PM or other issue doing it with so many in a small space?

Well I lollipopped them at day 20 of 12/12 and that probably helped.

Depends on the strain, veg time, lots of variables. Gotta tune your system to your strain.

Do you think I could do more than 16 and get 1oz per? Without co2. prob use rockwool . 1000 mh/hps
