Can I Prune More Leaves Off?? (5 weeks into flowering) PICS

Hi all

Just thought I'd ask the more experienced growers in this room & see what you all think...

I have pruned off quite a few leaves as some of the smaller buds were not receiving any direct light, if they were, it was stippled or very shaded light..

Can you tell me if it is OK to prune of the majority of the fan leaves at this point? (5 weeks into flowering) I want to make sure that all the buds get a good light but don't want to wreck my plant by over-pruning.

you understand the plant uses those leaves to feed the branches they are on. remove the leaves and you are removing a vital food source. STOP hurting your plants!!!!!!!!!! those leaves are there for a reason. if you are so worried about shaded buds then just tuck the bigger leaves aside.

Hi

Thanks for your reply - I see your point, I have seen other growers on this forum that prune off lower leaves to encourage more growth to the buds that aren't receiving much light.... Was I wrong to do this then?

I have tried tucking leaves under they just pop back eventually.
Maybe I should have just stuck to rotating the plants every couple of hours so they get even light distribution??

They don't seem to have suffered any ill-effects from my pruning, but I will heed your advice & STOP!!!

A little pruning off the bottoms is okay but only the wimpy BRANCHES that you can see aren't going to produce much at all. These make great clones so save them. Don't prune off the fan leaves, even if you think a bud below is blocked from the light bulb. Light is getting to it, albeit not as much but the fan leaves are what supply your plant with the sugars that carry the THC to your buds and provide your buds with the strength to get BIG so leave 'em alone. As they turn colors and are no longer producing, then by all means, snip them off. And rotating your plants every couple of hours is a waste of time and could traumatize your plants if your not careful. Leave 'em alone, they will grow just fine!

yes, pruning lower branches is okay. and yep, use them for clones for the next run. an oscillating fan will blow the leaves around moving them out of the way as it blows by.

If you are set on rotating your crops, do it once a week at most. Not every two hours. Jeez, don't you folks have a life? Leave those plants alone to grow on their own. You can kill with kindness, the most common problem amongst noobs.

Blimey - I didn't know I was doing so much harm...

When I said 'every couple of hours' I did in fact mean, every couple of days btw! - Just a typing error. So you folks can all stop bitchin'!
Thanks for the advice I shall leave 'em alone & let nature do it's thang..

This has been disproven through my own research and numerouse side by side pictorials on the Internet. Pruning will undoubtably increase yield.

Sorry, I did not realize this thread is 5 years old, but it reiterates a lot off misinformation that has been corrected throughout the years.

So prune 5 weeks in flower or no? The lower branches with tiny little buds that are pale yellowish in color?

I remove fan leaves and yes it's the proper thing to do if you have everything in your enviroment handled.

Look at my plants and tell me if they look sad......;-)

On my OG kush i prune any branch that will not reach the canopy and i trim any leaf/budsite that is below the canopy. I do this earlier than 5 weeks but if they r still tiny buds at 5 weeks they will not be worth keeping and it wont stress the plant too much to remove them.

Ok i have done a little research half say trimming leaves works half say it's bad so this is what I have done I have a few plants to experiment on I have sorta been doing a lst trial first time so I'm learning also have topped multiple times, sure lengthens grow time but that's ok !!! So In first picture it will be my runt plant she came from seed and is about 41/2 weeks old but remember runt of the family topped about three times and lst... second plant you'll see is same age but fimed and lst again both first time I have done any of this training and stuff so don't judge to hard I have taken pretty much all fans off my runt in picture one twice now this week and the growth of bud bearing tops and branch is wonderful much faster growth then expected the secound one I just did yesterday but already all the growths that where hidden and shaded are perking up and growing fast hope y'all like !

Lmao prune all day there's certain times to do it to have it be beneficial the rest of the times are detrimental only defan weeks 1 and 4 mid to end of each week to each their own but it works if done properly and gives bonuses like extra yield ,extra air movement and light penetration all the way down. These guys are funny saying it's like the worse thing ever

Well that's what I want to see first hand instead of being put off by guys saying it's the worst thing to do. I see already it does good for more light and better development on hidden treasures
