IES file mutilation using Dialux for Highlight boards

Well since I have been having problems getting Dialux to work I thought I would start a dedicated thread so we don't clog up other valuable threads with questions about using Dialux.

So for some reasons Windows 10 (or me) did not like V4 so I have loaded V8 and hey presto I can import my luminaire files, the journey begins...

If any of you guys have used this software before pls chime in and help retards like myself.

First question:

How do I add multiple panels and my spacings to a simple room layout in V8, I saw the option in V4 but not here?
I can set room size, reflectivity values, heights etc and I can select my luminaire - thats better than yesterday!

So a few of you who may be interested, I have tagged in:

@Or_Gro @coreywebster @Randomblame @prawnfreak @wingerdinger and ESPECIALLY @TEKNIK, come back reborn brutha, I need your help:wall::wall:

If anyone else is trying these boards pls chime in, this tool could be of real value to us, I know we can use our lux meters but this gives us a heap of info prior to pissing around with various heights and wattages.

Be gentle with me:bigjoint:

You can drag and drop the luminaires.
Im struggling with it myself but haven't had a proper play around.
What I am having an issue with is when you import a new luminaire it asks you for the dimensions but I can only change one of the dimensions and the other remains the same, no matter what I end up with a square rather than a rectangle.

Anyhow im seeing there are some tutorials on youtube. I will have a look at those.

You guys are gonna get this licked, then leave us to be support experts at THE Best light companies...i’ll still like you, tho...
I've seen this demo'ed at Light fair one year. Seems very cool that you can render rooms in color. Seemed sort of geared towards the EU crowd than North America.

I use mostly Visual and it will come close to Dialux with what it does. I design lighting for architectural work, so I can render pretty pictures for the architect. Good luck teaching yourself. It's how I learned.

At least there's YouTube to help now.

Thanks man...

In a way, funny...a bunch of stoners teaching themselves a software tool, so they can grow more/better weed....

Nice peeps, thanks for chiming in.

I am hell time poor as away for work for 10days, I'll pop in as I get a chance but doubt I'll have time to play too much. I'll try and watch some tutorials tomoz and see what happens.

Great thread. I started using dialux after Teknik brought it to my attention. But it kept freezing up on startup on windows 10 after my windows did a update. It worked fine for a few weeks. Anyone know if they make version for linux? I havent been able to find it.

we have a lot of ies files in PPFD, im guessing we should put these online?. Note when you generate a final report in PPFD, Dialux does not show the number as PPFD it shows as LX(Lux) however you can be sure these are PPFD numbers

Legend Mark, just did my first calc (its not 100% yet as I still have a few things to sort out in V88) and out pops 444 Lux, I went that's weird it should be about 30000 Lux as I had guestimated the height and wattage for my first veg grow under @Prawn Connery new boards (8 x 70watts at 600mm)

So a few things I learned:
*Select simple lighting
*Under "Construction" Enter you room dimensions, height of working plane (which I assume is canopy height)
*Then click on materials and input reflectivity values

*Under "Light" import your luminaire file and input board size.
*Yes drag and drop your luminaires into your room (after importing in an IES format and allocating the board size)
*Right click on each luminaire and you can give each luminaire its coordinates in X, Y and Z (light height) axis'
*If you click on the cube icon you can see your tent in 3D configuration

Questions:
# What is "Wall zone of the working plane"
# The skinniest wall thickness you can select is 0.1m is this of importance and does it change the internal or external size of the room. The reason I ask is when I inputted my luminaire coordinates they are not quite laid out evenly compared to how they should be. Is there a simple way to layout the boards in your desired config and just imput distance between boards? It is a bit tedious having to input each board from the base reference point

Dialux Evo V8 is much nicer to use and does not seem to be so buggy. As I progress and are confident in my results I will cut and paste the above info with new relevant pointers so you do not have to keep coming back to this post. New users pls feel free to do the same.

Hi Frank
Yes 30000 lx would be the normal Lumen based light level while 444 sounds like the correct ppfd level. I never worry about wall thickness. I will get back with the grid layout info
