Why don't i ever see Ocean Grown seeds these days

i rememebr years ago watching vader on youtube and thought he had some great videos, especially the ones featuring his breeding chambers and room designs. at that time, he seemed like a pretty popular guy/breeder but i never grew or bought his gear.
fast forward to today i was watching a guy i follow review Dark Helmet an ocean grown strain and it made me think what ever happened with OCean Grown, i totally forgot about them till recently. they also came up in a stream chat recently. anyway i then started thinking man not even here or OG forums seem to have threads on them or grow journals with their gear, but he has an extensive line it seems and some have been around for several years now, he also has a nice website. am i missing something here? is there a reason i never see anything about them on the forums

also has anyone grown their gear? or care to share anything they grew of theirs

The team of breeders broke up in 2018. StonedNinja, who created Ninja Fruit, helped develop Alien Rift, and brought in key genetics like the Key Lime Pie used in Jawa Pie, was "fired" for having a bad attitude and now has his own company Dojo Seed Co. PHNerd left shortly after that and started his own company, Spartan Family Genetics. VaderOG did indeed make stellar (still makes?) videos, but YouTube killed the cannabis community in 2018 as well. All but VaderOG have shared their reasons for what happened. OG seeds still exist, but with "breeders" like CrazyDawgo and MedGrower1, I haven't kept up with them much.

I personally grew some of the older Ocean Grown gear, like the Sleeping Dog and Wizards Potion. The Sleeping Dog was amazing, and I wish I still had some beans. Those genetics were from a time before the Alien Rift male. No experience with anything in recent years. Cheers and happy hunting!

oh right i forgot stoned ninja and phnerd were with OG. i follow them on twitch even lol. now thta i rememebr i think i thought they "cashed" in on finding stuff in OG testers. not saying that happened it is what i thought based off absolutely 0 information to be clear. they have seemed to fade from the scene a bit since their grand opening hype to i would say. i even saw some of spartan stuff have pretty low reviews. i also forgot dawgo and medgrower were with OG and that is prolly the stream they were mentioned on haha. now that you jarred my memory i can see why there is little hype with them atm. that scene is a little weird these days over on youtube, i'm not a fan. i still go there but i feel like youtube has become a bunch of product shills, not saying these guys are or aren't just saying youtube has a whole has gone in the shitter the last 1-2 years

I've ran ocean grown in the past, and their gear is solid. In face, have 4 of their strains drying on the lines right now. Vader works his lines pretty well, which I appreciate, even though it comes with it's drawbacks. Very stable, very uniform, and very good shipping/customer service. Here's some pics of some cured up Skunkbeard, one of their animal cookies crosses.

There ultimately isn't alot of diversity within his line. His strains are largely based on the alien/OG lineage, which expresses strongly. His strains look and smell similar; lemon/pine/gassy across most of his selections. The strains that he's developed to really deviate from this trend are aimed at one specific genetic trait, like smell, and therefore can lack potency or bag appeal (like malibu or ninja fruit).

And where he's dipped out of his comfort zone by tossing in cookies or glue, there are weird mutations and instabilities that pop up. His swashbuckler, for example, gave me a fire keeper pheno, but out of 12 females, 4 of them were straight runt mutants. This is fine for hobbyist grows, but for production runs, that's a huge percentage of throw away canopy space. Same experience with astro chimp.

The keepers were fire though, and his "non-trendy" strains that don't include cookies or glue crosses are very stable and uniform. As for how long ago, I ran them in 2018 and 2019. Can't really remember precise dates or months.

Yup. I chat with ninja a bit. He was almost as gutted as me when the cyclone threw a tree into my outdoors. This is 100% man and why ninja and phnerd still have such bad vibes about vader.
