Your not wrong. I'm not sure if he has a driver for it or just the board. What i was saying is sometimes you end up paying more for less when trying to incorporate something you already have and it may be beneficial to look at other options not just focus on using it. There are many ways he could go. I'm just trying to provide some prospectives so he can make an informed decision.
Also a good option. I just assumed he'd want to make the most of what he already has based on the fact that cost was definitely stated as a factor in the initial few posts. I get what you were saying about diy though... if you don't factor in ALL of the costs of needed materials you can't really properly assess how much you are actually saving (if any) over an factory assembled fixture. But if you are thorough when calculating cost of materials and put the time into looking for good deals on quality components, you really can get more bang for the buck. Hell, HLG will tell you flat out that their kits are going to give you more output per dollar than their assembled fixtures... i mean, it makes sense that you save money by doing some of the labor. Anyways, I'm babbling. I think we are essentially of like mind in this, just came at the discussion from different angles. Cheers!
