Personal-use growers: What is your annual yield? and...

...What do you you do with your excess (if any)?

There's always a lot of discussion about people seeking to get bigger yields and grams-per-watt of a certain kind of light spectrum....not to mention all the "secret formulas" of fertilizers, etc. used to boost yields.

But, what is the practicality of most of these things if your personal use is, say, less than "about a pound" per year? ;) I'm sure there are other smokers, like me, who don't have an "abusive" level of use. I'm not a Rasta. I just like to take a few small rips of high quality flower through a nice glass bubbler....smack my lips a few times as I blow out the smoke....

Doesn't it make more sense, for personal-use growers to get away from thinking like production growers? Why not grow 5 or 6 small plants to get a variety of flavors, without producing an excessive amount? In my experience, it's possible to store marijuana in airtight jars in the 'fridge for about a year before it starts to go bad. Of course, it's still effective. It's just not at it's peak flavor. And it doesn't make sense to store weed that doesn't taste as good as it could -IF you're in a state where you can legally grow it.

I have used my excess to make rosin, bubble hash, etc. -so as to be able to store it longer, but, even then, I end up with too much of that, as well.

I think that, when you become a grower, then you start to focus on the pursuit of getting good results that are gauged off of looking at pictures of gigantic plants with colas as long as your arm...etc. We want to try for that ideal....but I'm not sure it really should be the ideal if it ends up in waste. I've actually thrown out weed that was too old...something I never would have done back in the early days!

I grow a few different strains every few months maybe 6 plants a grow I honestly like the grow part the most it’s fun and interesting to see what strains do what I always have way more than I can use so I give some to my neighbors or cook with it I have recently got into pressing and making rosin I’ve noticed with rosin and using a rosin vape pen I’m actually able to taste the flavors described on these grower sites I think it’s my new favorite way to get high and it gets me really high just off two hits and it doesn’t smell up the place. This is some gorilla cookies I just pressed and storing rosin is a lot easier than having 20 mason jars in my closet.my annual yield is around 4 pounds. A1102FCD-F9D6-4F45-9CA5-7799E25B98D5.jpeg

Hi Tstik,
In my previous grows...I did end up selling my extra. Had friends with friends. Good pot is very easy to sell.

But now, my new grow...1200w flower room. I will be growing a long blooming pure sativa (fairly low yield) plus a cbd strain plus a couple of hybrids for gifting and cannabutter.

Lots of guys may say they are personal growers but actually sell it...this is the anonymous internet after all...

I’m growing only 4 this year and that will be 3 1/2 to many. I’m medical every day user and I don’t even use a lb in a year. The over flow gets turned back into the soil to add more organic matter. I give away more than half and still have more than I use so yeah less plants.

This sounds like me -except that my neighborhood is a bunch of young parents with kids and so I stay very discreet to keep from becoming the "drug guy".

The problem is that after you get to be a decent grower, you can end up with too much weed from just one plant! It's fun to get good results, though!

I'm a home grower of Ca.'s legal number of plants and I use it all up after the year. I cook a lot with it and home grown takes a lot to get a medical level dose being that it is probably no better than 10% THC. I"m averaging about 10 oz's per plant and I give away some as well. I just concentrate now on growing healthier plants and new methods to extract medicine from it. I can attest that growing your own medicine is somehow more effective than the ones you buy and it's so much fun in the meantime. Yes its a lot of work but I'm retired and have the time. I'm practicing with my Slugg 33 to get proficient at extraction with it. The end result is fantastic if you get the technique down. I use alcohol reduced oil to make edibles of high potentcy. Purchased edibles always over report their THC content as they are currently allowed to add THC and it's non decarboxilated form, THC-A TOGETHER for thier totals even though almost none of the THC-A will decarboxilate at the temp the interior of the item will get in the baking process. I ALWAYS decarb before cooking.

I'm only able to grow once a year and I grow 3 good size photo periods in my tent in a 3x3 scrog. There are two of us and in 4 years of growing we seem to need an average of about 10 oz per year, plus a few grams of dry ice kief. Now that I'm decent at growing we usually gift some to friends and family and occasional trades for vape oil cartridges.

Some home grown maybe... one plant from my most recent harvest is some of the most potent pot I've ever smoked. Maybe you need a better supply of seeds?

Find friends and charge a small amount for a lot of weed - id expect no less if i we were buddies, probably fall out with you on discovering your throwing weed away without calling me to consult on this life choice :-)
This is how most of us operate....I’m a big believer in kindness will be rewarded with more kindness .....

I'm in the bush, so my yields are all over the place. Last year was a rotten mess, and I only got 6-8 ounces. Couple of years ago I had a good year and made maybe a pound and a half.

I turn all my extra into canna coconut oil and keep it in the freezer. Only three folks know I grow, and two of them grow too, so only one for me to give any to.

tstick - I know your not but, don't you think this is a highly dubious question?
Kinda thing a cop might ask?

Kinda personal info thing if you will...Well, no harm no foul if you choose to answer...

Just never exactly feel good about just who can read this stuff......Took me some years before I posted my first pic here too.

LOL! No, I'm not a cop and I guess I have lost my paranoia about cops and weed, now, because the law and weed aren't at odds here on the West coast. I mean, if you happen to be one of those types of people who drive around hotboxing, or blowing smoke in a cop's face, then it might be a different story. I'm not that type of person, though.

It's only personal information if you decide to keep it to yourself...which is anyone's prerogative. I'm not interrogating anyone, after all. I share the same things about myself that I ask others to share if they want.

In regards to giving it away to friends...The only way that would be effective is if I was sending it to my friends in non-legal states -which isn't going to happen. They need it and so those places will continue to be prone to criminal dealing. Everyone else, here, is already set for themselves....no one (in my age group -old) needs it! Can you imagine that? It's true!

Cops probably do read these websites, but then, I suppose that criminals do too! I'm neither! :) I can't imagine what kind of money it would take "the cops" to gain any kind of useable, effective criminal investigations from a thread about personal-use growers....a lot of money spent investigating people who are acting within the law? I don't think that's going to happen.
