Amen my dude. Soil is your IP. You can certainly differentiate your crop from someone else's just by having unique and healthy soils. I've been watching so much of the stuff that's been uploaded on the youtubes, and I'm hearing everything you're talking about. I mean it just makes complete sense. Man... I wish I could have gone; been in that energy. I bet that was just an amazing feeling in itself; surrounding yourself with people who are passionate about something the same ways you are. I'm definitely going if they do it again next year. I'll be far more available than I am now.

Exactly man. Building healthy soils is what this should all be about. I know you would have really enjoyed it, like you said the energy there was amazing. Everyone was so generous with their knowledge and products of their labors haha I’ve annoyed eveyone I know talking about that weekend

Unfortunately Dr. Ingham was not able to make it there in person due to family reasons. Which was the biggest let down of the weekend for me. She video chatted in and was available all weekend if you had any questions though. I was really stoked to meet her in person, but there is always next time!

Cookies N' Chem, day 26. Only female I got out of what I popped (6 but 2 wilted out). However, I think I got lucky... this baby is looking great and has a wonderful sweet smell. Great bud development so far... not to mention the frost ;)

Funny story about these next plants... so I give my buddy a cut of some confidential cheese like 8-10 months ago something like that. For whatever reason, I ended up forgetting to take some cuts before flower and figured oh well I'll just get it back from my buddy. Time comes and I get the cut(s) back from him, sweet. I'm watching this thing veg and I'm going wow I've never seen this grow like this, my soil must be on point right now! Get to flower, and about week four I'm goin... man I've never had this strain smell like this and it's really stretched up this run, crazy! Finally I get to these pics, week 6. Normally the con cheese is getting quite purple by 6 weeks and by 7 weeks it looks done. Well I finally put the whole story together, no purple, citrus in your face smell, taller growth, and not even close to looking like it's finishing. IT'S FRIGGIN BRAINWRECK LOL. So either I gave him the wrong cut (which I've never ever ever mixed up a cut in my entire time growing) or he mislabeled a plant and thought he gave me con cheese cuts. So the confidential is gone unfortunately. I loved that cut. RIP

So here's some killer looking wreck at 42 days!

@ShLUbY - Thanks for the info about the microscope. The cool one my daughter gave me has auto brightness on the LEDs and it has stopped working. Why couldn't they have just had a manual control for the brightness!!!?

My daughter wants to start growing mushrooms and requested a kit for her birthday - any suggestions for a beginner? Or a good book on growing them.

As for the Cheese - sorry for your loss. It seems to happen too often. I try to cross the special plants with a good male just to preserve the genetics in seed form.

A note about the Cookies and Chem. All of these super frosty plants are mutants selected for resin production. The breeders sacrifice vigor and health for resin, terpene, color, and other considerations.
I have found that if you cross these mutants with a highly vigorous strain you can get the best of both worlds.
The landrace African, Mexican, and Asian strains all seem to possess an abundance of vigor along with some other magic.

Not sure if you're familiar with this company but they make a scope called the DinoLite for 99$... thing looks reeeeeeally solid. they make some really high end shit so I'm assuming their 99$ version has got to be light years better than the plastic cheapy I bought. I'd check them out if you're in the market for a new one.

Oyster mushrooms are fast and vigorous. Lions mane grow slower but also produce mushrooms that you just can't simply go out and buy from the store which is nice. But just grow whatever looks fun honestly (as long as it's a kit). Any of the kits will be fine as long as the company has decent reviews (fungi perfecti is paul stamets company and he is the friggin man when it comes to mycology, but his kits will generally be more expensive because of the name). the main thing is keeping the RH up. you need 90% RH maintained for good growth. a clear plastic storage tote can be converted to a well functioning fruiting chamber very easily. You'll see here I just have an air pump pushing air into the top of the tote, and larger holes on the side with polyfill (crafts store for like 3$) to allow gas exchange. then you just mist with water a couple times a day to keep the RH up and you're good to go.

I've really been wanting to do some crosses but I just haven't had the time or space to do them yet. was considering giving a go at one outdoors this year but I don't have anywhere that's sunny enough to grow them without being in plain sight so I'm just gonna have to get an indoor 3x3 tent or something. thanks for the info about putting some land race pollen on the cookies. In time I will be able to do some of my own work :) . I'm gonna need to pick your brain about male selection when the time comes.

Hell yeah dude. Let me know if you have any questions. If you wanted to not have to spray your tote all the time you can get an inkbird humidity controller and a 1-3 disk ultrasonic fogger and put that in there with a little reservoir and it’ll take care of the humidity with some automation ;)

When I'm done with school... the home lab is gonna get created (somehow somewhere lol). Gonna start getting into the Korean thing using natural products that I forage from the wild or my garden (which is no big deal cause I already forage A TON of stuff). Looking forward to the journey. I want to start becoming more sustainable in my growing practices and hopefully I'll eventually get to the point of eliminating the grow stores all together for inputs.

No till beds coming back soon. I'm super fired up about getting some going again. I was having pH issues from my first attempt after about 12-14 months. I just decided to add all the mix to my garden beds and start from scratch rather than deal with remediation. I have far more knowledge and experience and philosophy now so I'm hoping that will be a better foundation for my growing future. I will probably start the new thread after that process gets set in motion.

hardwood sawdust pellets (the stuff you buy in a 40lb bag for wood stoves for like $4.50/bag). Gypsum and Soybean Hulls for nutrition. Recipe is 10lb of pellets, 2.5lb of soybean hulls, and 0.5lb of gypsum pellets. Hydrate with 20lb of boiling water, cover and let sit for 1 hour. Then mix everything up real well. Put into the autoclave bags (7lbs per bag) and pressure cook to sterilize at 15psi for 2.5 hours. Remove from pressure cooker in a clean room and allow to cool to room temp (24-48 hrs). This recipe will allow you to grow a ton of different mushrooms. It makes about five 7lb bags. Pretty sure there's a company on the west coast that makes a specific hardwood pellets for mushroom cultivation, might be a good source for you. Don't remember the company name, I'll ask my friend.
