I've been hesitating on doing much defoliating - I always do this...lol..we'll see, I may end up taking more of the lower leaf off in the next few weeks, as it of course allows for more light penetration and airflow through the middle of the plants, and you get less undeveloped popcorn buds as well that way.... When the plants are so healthy and green I don't like to remove much leaf, as we keep all of our trim for making oil, and if I trim it off now we'll have that much less trim during harvest for oil-making. Even the leaves that have little to zero crystals on them at harvest - if it's a healthy leaf it goes in the trim bag. I'm a firm believer of using the green leaves along with the sugar-trim when making oil (once it's all dried), as there are components in them that help make for a more effective oil, along with the THC, etc.. That's why I'm always so hesitant with stripping off the lower growth - it feels like I'm losing a part of the plant that I can use later on..lol.

Lol...yeah me too - this is the hardest part...waiting for the buds to fill out and finish off. My next task will be to focus on making sure the branches don't sag-out too much once the weight gets heavier. I've been toying with the idea of using a net around the bottom of the plants and pulling it up from there to support the outer branches (on the BMD anyway)...we'll see what is needed as things get heavier. :)
 
Still looking great Dayzt. I've got a bunch of the parts I need for a hydro setup and your inspiring me to get the rest and get growing again! :peace:

That's awesome P4L! I think you'll have better luck with hydro than soil - there's a lot less chance you'll have to battle insect problems, humidity, or dry medium issues. :leaf:

Hey there mytwhyt!! That's awesome! I haven't been quite as ambitious as to setup a separate reservoir yet, but I think it may soon be a good idea to upgrade...you've got me thinking. :leaf:

I followed Scotty's grow back in 2010 on here and that was the year I started waterfarming as well - haven't gone back to soil yet! I've been experimenting with other nutrients with comparable success to the GH FNB. I couldn't get it in my grow shops anymore for awhile and was forced to branch out for that reason. So great to see more inspired growers from those earlier years still here and able to report success with these units! :weed:
 
Happy Friday Everyone! ..and it's picture update day - yay! Today is the last day of week 3 of flowering - things are looking pretty good so far still. This weekend I plan to flush all 3 plants and reset them all to 6.0 pH and approximately 1000 ppms with Tigerbloom, GH Flora Micro, and Big Bud.

Some notes to add for personal reference...

- Flushed all 3 plants today....took each one out of the tent one by one and lifted the top buckets up to manually dump & replace the reservoir (2 person job).
= Mixed the reservoir add-back water to: 6.0 pH, 1178 ppm (Tigerbloom, Flora Micro, Big Bud, Cal-Mag)
= Removed styrofoam blocks from WW and WR plants, so they are now about an inch+ lower..
- Raised lights yesterday, bypassed adjustable hooks to hook light directly to top of tent (highest they can go) (see pic >>>>>>>> ) 20190323_124158.jpg This gave my about another 8-9 inches of distance between the lights and the canopy top.
- Flowering week 4 (Day 21) started yesterday, March 23rd.

Did you have to lift the top buckets? I'm asking because I want to use a waterfarm but would be unable to lift the top bucket when it was that loaded with weight.

No, I didn't have to actually lift them out - I could have simply drained them through the blue tubes on each one.. but my wife was helping me, so I used the extra help to do it a bit differently and it was a bit quicker that way. If you keep your waterfarm up on blocks from the start, you can drain the reservoir from below without even moving the plant and then refill it through the top afterwards - through the hydroton. And of course, if you use a screen (scrog) above your plant you cannot remove the plant from the tent to change the res anyway.

That being said...I can't say there wouldn't be the possibility of having to lift the plant up during your grow in order to check for and/or remove possible clogs. Sometimes roots can grow up into the uptake stem and stop the water from circulating up and out through the drip ring - it's usually worth checking that at least once during the grow. The drip-ring can also be removed and cleaned up during the grow (if needed) - and then put back on rather easily - as long as you leave enough space to do that between the ring and the bottom of the plant.

Hey Dayzt, thanks for the explanation. I imagine I could recruit my wife if absolutely needed. Checking the res would not work unless you could attach the scrog screen to the top bucket (without it tipping over). If it was all attached then you could lift the scrog screen, plant and bucket top as one. Using ratchet straps you could lift each corner a few inches at a time and hang the plant while checking the res. Pfft, who am I kidding, I'll never take the time to build something like that.

Yes, I've seen those kinds of scrog attachments on the waterfarm. I would almost rather have it use 4 'legs' and attach from the the 4 corners of the top-bucket, to the 4 corners of the screen to be more versatile...but then those 4 arms would likely get in the way down there..lol.

Another option is to use a shop-vac with a small-end attachment and literally 'suck' the water out through the blue tube to do the drain...again, I've never tried that but heard of it being done that way. You need to be careful doing that, as you can pull roots up and out through the drain tube with that method.

The only other way would be to setup a separate reservoir and connect it to the bottom nozzle instead of the blue-tube...and then you could have it located away from the main reservoir in order to change it and adjust the pH/ppm in your water.. :)
 
You could go with two totes hooked together with 1 1/4 hose. Or pail and tote whatever works.
I run similar,scroged in. I haven’t had to lift the lid only a quick peek with a flashlight.
I run a hose from my laundry to fill and another into my washer drain so I can pump out the water.
Super simple.
